Chapter 54: This Freak

The End Of The World (WORLD)

On November 8th, the S City Base experienced the most difficult enemy attack war after the "Bloody Day."

This time, the enemies were no longer the familiar land animals to humans. They landed from the dam and demonstrating their overwhelming power to humanity for the first time.

The ocean, a territory that humans had never paid much attention to, which holds the most diverse species, the richest biological population, and is a place where almost all elements of the world converge. The world's deepest Mariana Trench, with over 2 million marine creatures, all which are hidden deep in the ocean depths and seemingly unrelated to the outside world.

Until this day, their fierce fangs were fully revealed.

No longer a calm and peaceful river surface, no longer a gentle and blue ocean that this place that humans had never truly set foot in finally unleashed its power and launched a full-scale attack on humans. Their strength far exceeded the levels of mutations that humans had imagined. Even without leaving the estuary, during this search on the inland riverbed, three A-grade mutant beings appeared.

Two were directly killed and one was successfully captured alive for research.

In order to defend their homeland, the sacrifices made by humans were horrifyingly high.

The already small population of the S City Base, after this battle, decreased to less than a thousand for the evolvers and the casualties among ordinary people were even more severe, leaving just over a million residents.

For a full ten days, cremating bodies, clearing battlefields and rebuilding dam defense systems consumed too much of humans' energy which diverted their attention completely. When everything seemed to finally come to an end, the belated sorrow and grief truly struck everyone's hearts. The streets and alleys were filled with silent weeping.

Walking on the calm, almost deathly silent streets, even the most cold-blooded and ruthless person would eventually be infected by the suppressed sadness in their hearts. Not loudly laughing or making noise but immersed in pain.

"After the previous beast tide, they... were not as mournful as they are now." Jing Xia wore a light blue medical mask, looking at the numb crowd around him, and said, "The casualties at that time were much more severe than now, nearly half of the evolvers in the entire S City Base died, and the research institute was almost completely wiped out. But... they didn't feel as sorrowful as they do now."

The upright man and the young man walked side by side on the street, passing through the crowd walking in the opposite direction, heading towards the research institute. They seemed like anomalies among the crowd, without needing to say much, exuding a distinctly different aura that separated them from the people around, not like hopeless zombies.

Ji Chuancheng slightly lowered his head, looking at Jing Xia's furrowed brow, and said, "That's because—now they have nothing else to do besides grieving."

Jing Xia paused for a moment and slowly understood. With a light sigh, he said, "Yes, because last time they had no energy to mourn, they had to be on guard against possible attacks from the enemy at any time. But this time... at least in the short term, it's safe."

Ji Chuancheng's deep and profound eyes stared closely at the young man. Just then, a slightly cool autumn breeze blew from the east, blowing Ji Chuancheng's scattered hair back, revealing a pair of sharp eyes. After a moment of silence, he said, "Don't worry, Professor Qi won't let this situation continue for too long. In two days at most, they will find new hope."

Jing Xia nodded lightly without saying more.

The two soon arrived at the research institute with the most wounded in the S City Base. They went through the familiar gates and found their way to the secretive laboratory located on the underground second floor. Led by the assistant, Zhang Bendan, they entered a small room and looked gravely at the person on the other side of the special glass.

The room was identical to the one they had used to deceive Su Weishang into being interrogated. The walls were made of a special material that allowed them to see and hear everything on the other side. And now, the scene behind this wall was as familiar as it had been a month ago:

Su Weishang lay on a long metal bed, his body completely paralyzed. He had over a dozen metal patches on his head, and nearly a hundred more covering his entire body, all connected to a black machine at the edge of the bed. The machine was almost two meters tall, with complex and dense buttons and indicator lights flashing constantly. A small LED screen was rapidly displaying information that Jing Xia couldn't understand.

Looking at this scene, Jing Xia felt a heavy weight in his heart, unsure of what to say.

Zhang Bendan seemed to notice Jing Xia's unusual expression. He turned his head and glanced at the unconscious boy in the center of the laboratory, then slowly smiled, "I heard that the one lying there is your younger brother. But don't worry, the experiments that Major Qi is doing on him are completely harmless. They won't have any effect on his body."

Except for Jing Xia, Ji Chuancheng, Qin Chu, and Qi Yang, everyone else believed that Su Weishang was suffering from complications caused by the side effects of the new type of alloy long sword. No one in the entire research institute suspected Qi Yang's explanation, or perhaps, they thought it was normal for this "little monster" to do whatever he wanted.

Jing Xia looked at Su Weishang, whose eyes were tightly closed, and asked, "By the way, why haven't I seen Wu Jiqing at the research institute these past few days?" As if worried that the other person wouldn't recognize Wu Jiqing, Jing Xia added, "The man who came to the research institute with Su Weishang the first time and brought the sword."

Zhang Bendan thought for a moment, then said matter-of-factly, "That person only came back once, the day after, and hasn't been seen since. The border defense work at the S City Base is very busy now, he probably went to participate in the coastal defense reinforcement mission."

Hearing this, Jing Xia nodded lightly, but felt a little confused.

Based on Wu Jiqing's strength and his position at the S City Base, it was absolutely impossible for him to be drafted for a simple coastal defense mission. In fact, as far as he knew, Wu Jiqing had been training at the training base frequently lately, and his schedule was relatively relaxed.

His delicate and beautiful eyes narrowed slightly. Jing Xia couldn't understand the current relationship between Wu Jiqing and Su Weishang.

As if sensing the young man's confusion, Ji Chuancheng lowered his voice, "If their relationship is truly strong, even if they don't see each other, it won't have any impact. Since this is Wu Jiqing's choice, he naturally knows what he's doing."

Hearing this, Jing Xia instinctively raised his head to look at Ji Chuancheng. The handsome man was staring intently at him, his gaze distant and calm, filled with a deep and profound emotion that made his throat dry and his heart beat faster.

Ji Chuancheng slowly curled his thin lips and said, "I also know what I'm doing."

Jing Xia was suddenly stunned and reflexively asked, "What are you saying?"

Before he could react, he felt his hand being gently taken.

First, it was a careful hooking of his thumb, and then the whole palm was pressed together, tightly without a single gap. The searing heat transmitted through the touch of their palms. Jing Xia was stunned for a moment, then slowly clasped back.

This man answered directly with his actions.

"This is Major Qi's last experiment. If we can't find the abnormalities in the subject, I'm afraid we'll have to isolate him for a short period of time," Zhang Bendan's clear voice broke the slightly ambiguous atmosphere in the room. The assistant, with his simple mind, didn't notice the anomaly between the two people behind him. He turned his head and continued, "To be honest, I don't understand why Major Qi would personally conduct these experiments for days."

Hearing this, Jing Xia asked curiously, "You think it's strange too? Qi Yang suddenly became interested in someone, and spent a lot of time doing experiments himself, without any results."

Zhang Bendan rolled his eyes and said, "Is that strange? Major Qi dissected our little Yueyue before! That's Yueyue, she's so beautiful! I don't know how that disgusting, perverted man could do it!" The more he talked, the angrier he got. "Don't tell Major Qi, but I'm so miserable as his assistant! I watched him chop off Yueyue's head with my own eyes, and he even extracted her living cells for research, creating energy bodies."

As if suddenly realizing that the two people next to him might not know his beloved Yueyue, Zhang Bendan explained, "Yueyue is a mutated rose in our research institute. She's so beautiful! Her waist is slender, her leaves are lush, and the overlapping of each petal perfectly conforms to Wittgenstein's aesthetic standards, combining the golden ratio with..."

Jing Xia couldn't help but swallow, silently taking a step back, creating a distance between himself and this man who had started to become infatuated.

Yueyue... Could it be the one he knew?

The one with sharp, ugly sawtooth, cruelly and fiercely chewing on the food that reached its mouth, crushing it all to pieces?

"Major Qi is the most perverted person I've ever met! How could he be so cruel to such a beautiful and lovely Yueyue! He's crazy! He's a bastard! He's a lunatic!"

Jing Xia: "..."

Sure enough, everyone in the entire research institute was someone he couldn't understand!

Before Jing Xia could be horrified and restless for too long, the metal automatic door opened, and Qi Yang walked in, wearing a white lab coat. Although Jing Xia was absolutely sure that they couldn't see what was happening on this side from the other room, Qi Yang still curled his lips and threw a smile in his direction, his eyes accurate as if they could penetrate the wall and see him.

After a while, he quickly retracted his gaze and seriously looked at the sleeping boy on the metal bed.

Ten days of research had allowed Qi Yang to understand Su Weishang's physical information as thoroughly as possible. He conducted experiments from molecular research to organ tissue composition, even the body's magnetic field and energy information. But just like the sword that appeared and disappeared inexplicably, Su Weishang was inexplicably normal.

This time, it could be considered Qi Yang's last gamble. He personally removed all the metal patches from Su Weishang's body. Under the puzzled gaze of the assistant beside him, he whispered a few words, and the assistant quickly left the laboratory, not sure where he was going.

Zhang Bendan was puzzled and said, "Hey? What are you doing? Isn't this for the HT magnetic field scan?"

Jing Xia also looked at Qi Yang's actions with some confusion. He quietly watched Qi Yang remove all the messy patches from Su Weishang's body, and then—

Started to take off Su Weishang's clothes!!!

"Holy crap!!!! This pervert!!!!!"

Translator thought:

Hahaha what are you doing Qi-pervert-slash-lunatic-Yang?
