The scorching sun baked the earth until it was hot and the people walking on both sides of the street were dressed simply, as if it were midsummer. If it weren't for the fact that daylight was short and the sun would set by four o'clock, no one would believe it was winter in the central northern hemisphere.
Jing Xia was rarely not at the training base but was hurrying to the research institute.
In the past two months, some of the more powerful evolvers had undergone specialized training in different projects under Professor Lu's arrangement. Since Jing Xia possessed water-based abilities, Professor Lu had specifically arranged underwater training near the dam for him.
That area had been guaranteed to be free of A-level mutants under the institute's thorough inspections every three days, making it almost absolutely safe for Jing Xia given his current strength. Jing Xia was confident that even when facing the A-level mutant octopus from two months ago, he would not be as flustered as before.
Thinking of the urgent summons from Professor Lu, he quickened his pace and started running. In doing so, he nearly shook off the chubby little creature on his head.
The small black ball hurriedly clung to Jing Xia's hair with its tiny body bouncing in the wind, yet it never got thrown off.
In fact, this leisurely time was simply a paradise that Chirpy had longed for!
Basking in the warm sunlight of the rising sun, Chirpy lazily lay on the beach dam to enjoy the sun. By noon, it could receive food from Jing Xia—dying water-based mutant beasts. This little life was like an early retirement, so enjoyable that it wished it could lie there forever.
At first, Jing Xia decisively picked up the little black ball that was clinging to a dying C-level mutant beast and moved it aside and forbidding it from eating such a strange mutant body. However, when he once failed to stop it and Chirpy successfully took a bite of a B-level mutant body, Jing Xia silently waited for ten minutes for the little black ball to die, only to find it still lively and climbing onto his head. He then decided to let it be.
If that thing ever died, it would surely be from overeating!
“Ji Ji Ji Ji!!!”
Running too fast!!!
As if he could understand Chirpy's voice, Jing Xia slowed down a bit. In just ten minutes, he arrived at the familiar place he often visited and skillfully found Professor Lu's laboratory. As soon as he opened the door, he froze in place.
He saw a tall, graceful man standing with his back to him in front of a long table. Bright light shone on him through the large glass window, making him appear somewhat hazy. It seemed he heard the sound of the door opening as the handsome and elegant man turned his head and looked down at him with his deep, dark eyes lost in thought.
After a moment of daze, Jing Xia immediately entered the room, then casually closed the door behind him and smiled, “Ah Chuan, what are you doing here? I remember your mission today was to go to the estuary to track the A-level mutant beast discovered by the micro-radar, right?”
He took a few steps to stand beside Ji Chuancheng. Although he was only half a head shorter, but he still needed to look up at the other. For some reason, looking at this expressionless face, Jing Xia felt that this person seemed particularly happy today.
Ji Chuancheng looked at Jing Xia seriously and after a moment, his thin lips curved slightly, “There was indeed such a matter, but something unexpected happened, so Professor Lu called you back.” After a pause, he added, “He also called me here.”
“Eh? What unexpected thing is that and made Professor Lu call me?” Jing Xia exclaimed in surprise as his clear and sharp peach blossom eyes widened slightly and appearing a bit amber due to the light, his expression astonished. But in an instant, Jing Xia noticed something: “Wait, where's Professor Lu?!”
Scanning the unobstructed laboratory, the amiable, joking old man was nowhere to be seen.
Ji Chuancheng's gaze lingered slightly on Jing Xia's slightly parted lips as his brows furrowed and his eyes darkened. Before the young man could react, he suddenly reached out to stroke those full lips with his calloused fingertips and gently rubbed them.
This sudden ambiguous action made Jing Xia's cheeks gradually heat up and turn red. He cleared his throat twice but hadn't spoken when he heard Ji Chuancheng lower his voice, “There's a bit of bloodstain from something that splashed on you.”
“……”
No matter how romantic the atmosphere was, it was completely shattered now!
Irritated, Jing Xia pushed away the long, slender fingers of the man and used all his strength to rub his lips while feeling so frustrated that he just wanted to punch the man in front of him!
In these two months, Jing Xia felt he was living more and more like this wooden-headed ice mountain.
He wasn't someone who cared about ambiguity; he could even say he was somewhat indifferent to desire. But compared to Ji Chuancheng, Jing Xia felt he was as passionate as a summer flame, exuberant like a Hawaiian hula dance!
Aside from that one impulsive kiss two months ago, this man had not done anything else “out of line.” It was as if they had returned to an ancient feudal society, where even holding hands was rare, let alone discussing hugs.
No, because in a feudal society, there would also be defenses between men and women and there was no such thing as male-male matters.
“Ahem.” Jing Xia quickly coughed twice trying to dispel the increasingly strange thoughts in his head.
“Alright, stop rubbing, or else, you're going to break the skin.” Ji Chuancheng suddenly reached out to stop Jing Xia's actions. His bony fingers grip the slender wrist and feel the bone with no fat beneath his hand, causing his brow to slightly furrow, “Why do you have no flesh at all?”
Jing Xia, confused, raised his other arm and pointed with his eyes at the small muscle that could easily be seen without any effort and said, “Don't tell me my training these days has been ineffective because clearly, I have muscles hidden all over!”
A hint of barely noticeable amusement flashed in Ji Chuancheng's eyes as he nonchalantly hummed twice, “Oh, this is muscle?”
“Ji·Chuan·Cheng!!!”
Seeing the obvious teasing expression on the other’s face, Jing Xia decided to throw a punch. His punch was fierce and fast, and if it were before the apocalypse, it could definitely be considered at a professional athlete's level. However, Ji Chuancheng easily caught the punch that came at him like a bullet and gently pulled it, causing Jing Xia to lose his balance and fall onto him.
“Looks like your muscles still need a…” point.
Ji Chuancheng's voice suddenly stopped because Jing Xia stubbornly stared at him with his gaze unusually bright while looking up at him with a proud nobility like a small beast unwilling to submit.
Ji Chuancheng felt a dryness in his throat and couldn't help but swallow.
Following the beautiful curve down, he saw the long, slender neck, then the delicate protruding collarbone and the fair skin that was greatly exposed due to the posture and the hint of red that was barely visible in the shadows.
His gaze darkened further and Ji Chuancheng furrowed his brow tightly, while a vein on his forehead twitches involuntarily. The desire surging from his lower abdomen was well suppressed by its owner but in just a moment, the young man in his arms began to rub against his chest as the warm breath tickled his jaw like a feather.
“I faced off against two B-level mutant beasts by the dam this morning; do you want to give it a try?” Jing Xia provocatively said, “If you still think that's not enough, then we can abandon our abilities and compete in physical strength. I could easily run fifty thousand meters right now!”
No one answered and the room fell into an eerie silence.
“Ah Chuan, why aren’t you saying anything?” Jing Xia finally felt something was off and looked up. When he suddenly saw the man's eyes, which were dark enough to seem like they could absorb all light, causing his whole body to jolt because he instantly understood some inexplicable issues.
He instinctively tried to break free from the grip on his right wrist, but it was futile. A tremendous force pulled him forward and he slammed into Ji Chuancheng's solid, broad chest. Before he could recover from his dazed state, he suddenly felt warmth on his lips.
His eyes widened in shock.
A thought flashed through his mind, “Is this guy really going crazy?” but it was quickly defeated by the inexplicable passion that the other exuded. Following the other's aggressive movements, Jing Xia actively kissed back as the faint sound of saliva between their lips and tongues rang in his ears and ignited a heat in his lower body.
The Rational side told him that the door was locked and even if someone were to knock, they would definitely have time to finish everything and erase the scene before the other unlocked it.
With that, all reservations vanished.
Jing Xia wrapped his arms around the man's slim waist and actively used his tongue to push against the thing that was wreaking havoc in his mouth. Intertwining, licking, and even biting it. The clash of strength between the two men was vividly displayed at that moment and gradually pulled Jing Xia into a state of unwillingness to yield.
If he lost to this ice mountain, how could he still live up to the title of “Little Prince of B City Nightclubs”?
The temperature was gradually rising and Jing Xia vaguely felt a bit dizzy as the air in his lungs became extremely thin but the powerful will of not wanting to lose kept him from conceding. He forces himself to keep up with the other's rhythm because he was helpless and unable to stop the other from pinning him against the long table, his body slowly pressing down.
“Bang—”
“Ji Ji Ji Ji!!! Ji Ji Ji Ji Ji Ji Ji Ji!!!!”
The sudden shout completely jolted Jing Xia awake from his dazed state. He instantly realized what kind of environment he was in and what inappropriate actions he was taking.
With one kick, he pushed the man off him while panting heavily. He stood up and looked at the little black ball on the ground that was incessantly squeaking, “Cough cough... What's wrong with you now? At this height, you won’t get hurt. If you keep squeaking...”
Seeing the mutant hamster puffed up like a prickly ball, Jing Xia's threatening words were immediately swallowed back. The long little tail stood up nervously and Chirpy looked warily at the tightly locked metal door.
The next second, the sound of the lock being opened suddenly rang out. It was a very faint sound but in this eerily quiet room, it sounded as loud as a train whistle.
He instinctively turned to look at Ji Chuancheng, who was staggering to steady himself. Without needing words, the two quickly exchanged glances and both alertly watched the metal door that was about to be opened.
The silver-white, multi-layered secret metal door was finally pushed open after a series of knocks. First, a small gap let sunlight in, then a five-centimeter-wide opening revealed a pair of shiny, smooth leather shoes and finally, a pair of reflective silver-rimmed glasses obscured the expression of the owner behind the lenses.
“What are you all looking at me for? Tsk, look at your flushed faces; have you been indulging in broad daylight?”
