Chapter 8: Call me "brother"

Online Dating Fiasco with the Campus Heartthrob (DATING)

The other side simply complimented him, but Ji Su's ears inexplicably turned warm.

He unconsciously bit his lower lip and try to recall the sound he had just made while wondering if it sounded strange.

After a while, the deep male voice spoke again: "Why are you silent again?"

To be safe, Ji Su decided not to speak anymore.

He placed the phone back on the stand then raised his hands once more, and his slender fingers danced gracefully across the black and white piano keys.

The crisp, melodious notes of the piano were like little fairies wandering through a forest, lively and vivid, and lifting the listener's spirits effortlessly.

After finishing another piece, Ji Su sat quietly for a few seconds before picking up the phone.

Having played two piano pieces for G, tonight's indulgence should come to an end.

Meng Meng: [Senior, are you feeling better now?]

"Yeah, much better," the person on the other end replied softly. "Thank you, Meng Meng."

Meng Meng: [You're welcome~]

Meng Meng: [Then, Senior, I’ll hang up now…]

The other person was silent for a few seconds then asked with their tone carrying an indescribable hint: "Why… so shy?"

"Mmm…" Ji Su hummed softly through his nose and decisively ended the call.

This half-concealed, half-revealed effect was exactly what he wanted. The scumbag senior might just dream of Meng Meng’s voice tonight.

G: [Get back to the dorm early.]

Ji Su didn't reply to this message.

He closed the piano, then turned off the lights in the classroom, locked the door and left the music club.

On his way back, he noticed that Qiao Jin had sent him several messages.

Qiao Jin: [Susu, where did you go? You’re not in the dorm.]

Qiao Jin: [Susu, when are you coming back?]

Qiao Jin: [Susu, Susu, have you been abducted by aliens?]

Ji Su: [Not abducted by aliens. I’ll be back soon.]

After returning to the dorm, Ji Su briefly explained the situation to Qiao Jin.

Qiao Jin widened his eyes: "Damn, that scumbag is so lucky to have you play the piano just for him!"

"What scumbag?" Zhao Ziyun, catching the keyword, got excited like a groundhog scurrying through a melon field. "Is there some fresh gossip in some department?"

"No," Qiao Jin cautiously shut his mouth. "You heard wrong."

Zhao Ziyun, being simple-minded, went back to his game when he heard there was no gossip. However, Li You glanced at them a few times.

Ji Su sat at his desk then opened his phone and saw that G had sent him two more messages.

G: [Are you back in the dorm?]

G: [Meng Meng?]

Ji Su curved his lips slightly but deliberately pretended not to see them.

After waiting a moment longer, G called him via voice chat.

Ji Su knew that from this moment on, the scumbag senior had fallen into Meng Meng’s gentle trap.

He clicked to decline the call and replied via text.

Meng Meng: [Just got back to the dorm and didn’t hear my phone on the way.]

G: [Good that you’re back.]

Meng Meng: [What about you, Senior? Are you back at school?]

G: [Yes.]

Meng Meng: [That’s good.]

Meng Meng: [Senior, were you worried about me?]

G: [Yes.]

Meng Meng: [I thought only I would worry about you, but it turns out Senior cares about me too.]

Meng Meng: [Blushing cat emoji.jpg]

The chat box showed "Typing…" at the top.

After some backspacing, a few words finally appeared.

G: [Yes, I care.]

Meng Meng: [Senior, I suddenly feel sleepy. I’m going to bed~]

Ji Su didn’t continue to delve deeper into the topic.

To keep the scumbag hooked on Meng Meng, he couldn’t come across as too pushy.

Most men have a common flaw—they stop cherishing what they’ve already obtained. Besides, they were only chatting online, and the scumbag still had plenty of options in his contact list.

G: [Alright, sleep well.]

G: [Good night.]

Meng Meng: [Good night, Senior~]

Meng Meng: [I hope you have sweet dreams tonight, preferably with Meng Meng in them~]

.........

Over the next week, Ji Su noticed that the scumbag senior was reaching out to him more frequently.

Unfortunately, this week was particularly busy for him.

His coursework was heavy, and he had also taken on some freelance work, leaving him spinning like a top.

He barely had time to log into his alternate account, and his replies to G became less attentive.

On Friday evening, during a break from his drawing, Ji Su remembered the scumbag and logged into his alternate account.

He saw that G had sent him a message hours earlier.

G: [Are you done with class?]

Meng Meng: [Senior, I just finished practicing piano and got back to the dorm.]

The reply popped up immediately, as if the other person had been holding their phone and waiting for his message.

G: [So late?]

G: [Have you had dinner?]

Ji Su being reminded by the message had realized he had forgotten to eat dinner. He couldn’t help but touch his flat stomach.

Meng Meng: [Not yet. I’ve been too busy to eat.]

G: [No matter how busy you are, you should still eat.]

Ji Su curled his lips slightly and wondered if the next line would be something like, "If you don’t eat properly, I’ll fine you 500 yuan."

After all, this scheming, broke man had swindled so much money from his seniors.

G: [Send me your address. I’ll order you some food.]

Ji Su raised an eyebrow, somewhat surprised.

But then he thought that the cunning scumbag senior was probably playing the long game.

Meng Meng: [It’s okay, Senior. I can order it myself~]

He hadn’t yet extracted the scumbag’s school and address. He wasn’t foolish enough to expose himself first.

The other side was quiet for a moment before sending a red packet.

G: [Order whatever you want to eat.]

G: [Eat more. You’re too thin.]

Ji Su: "…"

Sending a red packet was fine, but why the personal jab?

Meng Meng: [Senior, why are you so nice to me~]

Meng Meng: [Touched cat emoji.jpg]

G: [Good girl, take the red packet.]

This time, the scumbag really went all out.

Ji Su decided not to hold back, since the guy had swindled so much money from the senior. Getting even a little back would be worth it.

He clicked to accept the red envelope then sent a few cute emojis, and opened an app to order takeout.

Forty minutes later, the food arrived at the dorm.

Just as Ji Su opened the takeout box, his phone on the table vibrated again.

G: [Have you eaten?]

Ji Su cleared the table before picking up his chopsticks with one hand and took a photo with his phone in the other then sending it over.

Meng Meng: [Eating now!]

G: [Hmm.]

G: [Your hand looks nice.]

In the photo, the hand holding the chopsticks was slender and delicate with pale skin showing faint blue veins. The nails were neatly trimmed, clean, and had a healthy pink hue, like a finely crafted piece of porcelain.

Ji Su: "..."

You were supposed to look at the food and not my hand!

G: [Is this the hand that played the piano for me?]

Meng Meng: [Both hands! You need both hands to play the piano!]

G: [Got it.]

G: [Hurry up and eat before it gets cold.]

Ji Su didn’t reply and focused on his meal.

When he was almost done, Qiao Jin and Li You returned together.

Qiao Jin took off his coat and walked over, "Susu, why are you only eating dinner now?"

Ji Su casually replied, "I was busy and forgot about it."

Li You paused, "Ji Su, what have you been busy with lately?"

"I took on a freelance job, but it’s almost done." Ji Su said as he cleaned up the table. "I’ll have more free time next week."

Li You hesitated but still asked, "Are you... short on money?"

Ji Su didn’t catch it, "What?"

"Li You asked if you’re short on money." Qiao Jin repeatedly then added, "Susu isn’t short on money, don’t worry."

Ji Su nodded, "Yeah, I just wanted to gain some experience."

"That’s good." Li You awkwardly rubbed the back of his head. "You often treat us to meals, so you probably aren’t short on money."

"If I ever have any trouble, I’ll let you know." Ji Su said with a soft smile. "But thank you for caring about me."

Li You’s face turned red and he averted his gaze unnaturally, "N-no need to thank me..."

But Ji Su didn’t notice this odd reaction and went out to throw away the trash.

When he returned, Qiao Jin whispered in his ear, "Susu, I think you should stop smiling at people like that in the future."

"Huh?" Ji Su was confused. "Like what?"

"Like that!" Qiao Jin tried to mimic his smile but gave up. "Didn’t you notice Li You blushing because of you?"

Ji Su: "I didn’t..."

"Ah! Susu, you really don’t know your own charm!" Qiao Jin glanced toward the bathroom. "If Li You ever gets turned on by you, I wouldn’t be surprised at all."

"Shh..." Ji Su made a silencing gesture. "Don’t talk nonsense."

Qiao Jin shrugged, "Fine, I’ll pretend I didn’t say anything."

At eleven, Ji Su finally shut down his computer and climbed into bed.

While lying down, he scrolled through his chat history with the scumbag and noticed that recently, G had been replying instantly while Meng Meng only replied occasionally and showing far less enthusiasm than at the beginning.

But judging from G’s attitude tonight, he didn’t seem to mind Meng Meng’s indifference at all.

As the saying goes, the unattainable is always the most desirable.

Since the scumbag hadn’t succeeded yet, he had to at least pretend to be patient.

After some thought, Ji Su sent a message.

Meng Meng: [Senior, are you asleep yet~?]

G: [Not yet.]

G: [Finished your work?]

Meng Meng: [Yep, all done~]

Meng Meng: [I’ve been so busy lately, I haven’t had time to chat properly with you~]

G: [Studies come first.]

Meng Meng: [Senior, you’re so good at studying, yet you seem so relaxed. Do you have any tips for me?]

G: [I’m efficient.]

Ji Su: "..."

Hmph, no modesty at all.

G: [You’re a music major, so you don’t need to spend too much effort on non-major courses. I can help you with the final exams.]

Ji Su felt nothing inside since his entire dorm relied on him to get through finals.

Meng Meng: [Really? Senior, you’re too kind!]

Meng Meng: [Thank you so much, senior~!]

G: [Want to thank me?]

Ji Su was speechless.

It was just a polite gesture; did he really have to take it seriously?

G: [How do you want to thank me?]

Meng Meng: [What do you want me to do, senior~?]

G: [Think about it yourself.]

Ji Su: "..."

The guy probably wanted to see his legs again, but he’d already sent plenty of leg photos.

No matter how he took them, they wouldn’t magically improve.

Doesn’t the scumbag ever get tired of them?

Meng Meng: [Senior~]

G: [Hmm.]

Meng Meng: [Big brother, please help Meng Meng out~]

Ji Su looked at the words in the chat box and shivered at how cringy he sounded.

To avoid sending more leg photos, he had to resort to this tactic. After all, it was just typing.

But the other person seemed to really enjoy it as they reply quickly.

G: [What did you call me?]

Meng Meng: [Brother...]

Meng Meng: [Shy kitty.jpg]

G: [Send a voice message.]

G: [I want to hear you say it.]

Ji Su: "?"
