Chapter 9: How could you fall for online dating?

Online Dating Fiasco with the Campus Heartthrob (DATING)

Faced with G’s unreasonable request, Ji Su suspected that the guy was still holding a grudge over the voice call that night and was now setting a trap for him.

Typing online was one thing, but actually using a cutesy voice to call a scumbag "brother"...

Ji Su pursed his lips and decided to employ a classic tactic—playing dead.

After all, he wasn’t counting on that scumbag senior to help him with his final exams, so he wouldn’t call.

But soon, a new message popped up from the other side.

G: [Playing dead again?]

Ji Su: “...”

G: [Is this how Meng Meng thanks me?]

Ji Su gritted his teeth then pulled the blanket over his head and burrowed into the bed.

After mentally preparing himself, he pressed the voice message button and tried to soften his voice before calling out softly, “Gege…” (Brother…)

No, that sounded weird.

He canceled the message and tried again, but this time it seemed like he overdid it.

Just as he was about to cancel the message again, something suddenly patted him through the blanket.

Startled, Ji Su’s finger slipped, and the voice message was sent.

“Susu?” Qiao Jin stood by the bed and whispered, “Are you feeling unwell?”

Ji Su poked his head out from under the blanket and felt like he’d been caught red-handed doing something wrong. He denied it guiltily, “No, I’m fine.”

“Alright, maybe I misheard.” Qiao Jin relaxed, “Then get some sleep early.”

Ji Su watched him head to the bathroom then suddenly remembered the voice message he’d accidentally sent.

He put the phone to his ear, and a soft, sweet “Gege~” played, with the tail end of the word trembling slightly.

It felt like a kitten’s paw had gently scratched his ear.

Ji Su threw the phone away as if electrocuted.

How had he made such a sound?

The next second, the phone on the bed vibrated.

G: [Hmm.]

G: [That sounded nice.]

Ji Su looked at the chat box and then his fair ears tinged with a suspicious red.

What did he mean by “sounded nice”?

He seriously suspected the scumbag was making some kind of suggestive remark, but he had no evidence.

Meng Meng: [Senior! You’re so mean!]

Meng Meng: [Shy cat emoji.jpg]

G: [That’s mean?]

Meng Meng: [Hmph!]

G: [I won’t let you call me for nothing.]

Ji Su curled his lips and did not even bother to say goodnight.

He put down his phone and tried to fall asleep.

A moment later, the phone vibrated again.

G: [Sleepy?]

Ji Su thought about it and decided to reply.

Meng Meng: [Yeah, so sleepy that I can’t keep my eyes open…]

G: [Sleep then.]

G: [Goodnight.]

............

The next day was Saturday, and Ji Su slept in until past ten.

The dorm was quiet, and his roommates were even lazier as they were still in bed.

After quietly finishing his morning routine, Ji Su turned on his computer and sent the completed design draft to his client.

By then, Qiao Jin had also woken up and was yawning softly, “Susu, what time is it?”

“Almost eleven.” Ji Su glanced at the time on his computer screen, “Want to get up and eat?”

Qiao Jin ruffled his hair, “Yeah, wait for me.”

After getting ready, the two headed to the cafeteria for lunch.

The cafeteria wasn’t crowded at this hour on a Saturday, and just students that were scattered in various corners.

Ji Su carried his tray to a seat by the window and was about to start eating when Qiao Jin asked, “By the way, Susu, how’s your progress with the scumbag?”

“It’s going well.” Ji Su replied, “Last night he even sent me a red packet to order takeout.”

“What? Really?” Qiao Jin was surprised, “The scumbag actually sent you money?”

Ji Su shrugged slightly, “I was a bit surprised too.”

“How much did he send?” Qiao Jin pressed, “Not just a few bucks, right?”

Ji Su: “Two hundred.”

Qiao Jin’s tone grew excited, “The scumbag is willing to spend money on you, Susu! You’ve succeeded!”

“Not necessarily because it might be part of his scheme.” Ji Su remained cautious, “He might be using small amounts to gain trust, then scam Meng Meng for more later.”

Qiao Jin nodded, “That makes sense…”

Ji Su smiled, “It’s fine. I’ve already spent this much time on him, so I don’t mind waiting a bit longer.”

“I can already imagine the scumbag crying his eyes out, haha!” Qiao Jin laughed, “If you play with fire, you’re bound to get burned, right?”

After lunch, Ji Su and Qiao Jin left campus to shop at a nearby commercial street.

Qiao Jin loved buying new clothes, especially since he cared a lot about his appearance.

With summer approaching, he bought several sets of summer outfits and even forced Ji Su to try on clothes with him.

Soon, both of them were carrying bags full of purchases.

As they left the mall, Qiao Jin suddenly stopped in his tracks.

“What’s wrong?” Ji Su followed his gaze and reminded him, “That’s a women’s clothing store and not suitable for you, Xiao Qiao.”

“I know it’s not for me, but it’s perfect for—” Qiao Jin’s face lit up with a mischievous grin, “Perfect for Meng Meng!”

Ji Su: “?”

Qiao Jin hooked his arm, “Come on, let’s go in.”

“Xiao Qiao, don’t go too far.” Ji Su warned as he tried to pull away, “You’re going to lose me as a friend.”

“It’s almost summer, and Meng Meng only has one sailor dress. Don’t you think that’s unfair?” Qiao Jin persisted, “What if the scumbag asks for new leg photos?”

Ji Su frowned slightly and a hint of hesitation flash across his face.

Qiao Jin pressed on, “Would you rather take photos in a dress or with your bare legs?”

“Xiao Qiao, you—” Ji Su quickly covered his mouth, “Keep your voice down!”

Qiao Jin raised an eyebrow, muffled, “Are we going in or not?”

In the end, Ji Su reluctantly followed him into the store.

It was a boutique women’s clothing store and was filled with beautiful dresses.

As soon as they entered, a well-dressed saleswoman greeted them warmly, “Welcome~”

Seeing two young, handsome men, the saleswoman paused for a moment but quickly regained her professionalism and smiled, “Are you shopping for your girlfriend or your mother?”

“Girlfriend,” Qiao Jin answered without hesitation, “She’s a college student, very beautiful, and her figure is similar to this handsome guy here.”

Ji Su: “…”

Could you be any more obvious?

The saleswoman, clearly experienced, asked calmly, “What’s her usual style?”

Qiao Jin glanced at Ji Su and blurted out, “Pure and sexy!”

“Got it~” The saleswoman smiled sweetly, “Please wait a moment~”

Soon, she returned with several dresses, “Take a look. Are these the styles you’re looking for?”

Qiao Jin took the clothes and examined them carefully.

Ji Su turned his face away to try to pretend this had nothing to do with him.

But Qiao Jin wouldn’t let him off the hook because he shoved the dresses in front of him, “Susu, which one do you think Meng Meng would like?”

Ji Su couldn’t bear to look, “Any of them…”

“Then we’ll take them all.” Qiao Jin waved his hand like a big spender, “Wrap them up for Meng Meng!”

“Sure, please wait~” The saleswoman happily went to package the dresses and was thrilled at how easy the sale was.

After paying, Ji Su quickly left the store with the bags, as if something terrifying was chasing him.

But after just a few steps, Qiao Jin turned into a lingerie store.

Ji Su: “Come back!”

People will think we’re perverts!

“Just a minute!” Qiao Jin didn’t look back as he disappeared into the store and emerging a few minutes later.

Ji Su had a bad feeling, “Don’t tell me you bought something.”

“I bought black stockings!” Qiao Jin didn’t give him a chance to escape, “They’ll definitely drive the scumbag crazy!”

Ji Su: “…”

............

At 8 PM, Gu Zhao pushed open the dorm door and walked straight to his chair.

“Gu, you’re back?” Wang Mingzhe took off his headphones and glanced at his expression, “Who’s upset you this time?”

Gu Zhao’s handsome face was colder than usual with his brows furrowed that made him look even more intimidating.

Gu Zhao: “No one.”

Wang Mingzhe and Zhou Yang exchanged a look and decided to continue playing their game.

Gu Zhao sat at his desk with his long legs bent and his large hand idly spinning his phone.

His fingers were long and well-defined while the veins on the back of his hand prominent—a hand full of masculine strength.

After a while, the phone buzzed.

Gu Zhao’s brows relaxed as he picked up the phone and opened WeChat.

Meng Meng: [Sorry, senior, I just saw your message~]

G: [It’s fine.]

G: [Did you go out?]

Meng Meng: [It’s Saturday, so I went shopping with my roommate~]

G: [What did you buy?]

Meng Meng: [Bought so many pretty little dresses~]

G: [Let me see.]

Meng Meng: [Oh, stop it, I haven’t had the chance to wear them yet…]

Gu Zhao’s gaze lowered and the corners of his lips curling up slightly.

Wang Mingzhe, who happened to catch this scene out of the corner of his eye, exclaimed loudly, “Holy crap!”

The upward curve of Gu Zhao’s lips disappeared as he shot him a sidelong glance.

“Brother Gu, were you just smiling?” Wang Mingzhe rubbed his eyes vigorously. “Am I seeing things? You actually smiled at your phone!”

“You’re mistaken.” Gu Zhao couldn’t be bothered to explain and averted his gaze.

“Something’s off, something’s really off!” Wang Mingzhe, as if discovering a new continent, pressed on relentlessly. “You’ve been looking at your phone a lot more recently, and you won’t let us see. What’s so good on your phone?”

Gu Zhao’s tone was flat. “Nothing.”

“Now that you mention it, I’ve also noticed Brother Gu’s been glued to his phone lately,” Zhou Yang joked casually. “Brother Gu, you’re not… into online dating, are you?”

Gu Zhao paused his typing and furrowed his handsome brows.

“Online dating? Brother Gu?” Wang Mingzhe burst into earth-shaking laughter. “No way, hahaha! How could Brother Gu possibly be into online dating? Hahaha…”

Apart from leaving opposing lawyers and judges speechless and wishing they could crawl into a hole during mock trials, Gu Zhao consistently adhered to the virtue of brevity in daily life.

If he could answer with one word, he’d never use two.

If a “?” could convey his meaning, he’d never use a “?”.

How could someone like that possibly be into online dating?

“Old Zhou, you’re hilarious, seriously!” Wang Mingzhe seemed to have hit his funny bone. “How could someone like Brother Gu be into online dating? Would he even use punctuation when chatting with them? Haha—”

Wang Mingzhe’s laughter was cut short as he met Gu Zhao’s death glare.

In the next moment, Wang Mingzhe leapt up from his chair. “Holy crap? Brother Gu, are you really into online dating?”

Gu Zhao didn’t answer.

Instead, his gaze drifted down to the bandages wrapped around Wang Mingzhe’s feet.

Zhou Yang exclaimed in surprise, “Old Wang! You’re standing!”

Wang Mingzhe, belatedly felt a searing pain and immediately hugged his leg while howling as he sat back down on the chair. “It hurts, it hurts, it hurts!”

Gu Zhao: “…”
