Chapter 14: The Third Commission

Hello, Welcome to Merit Supermarket (SUPERMARKET)

As the young man's cold voice and the sound of the abacus beads resetting to zero echoed,

President Lu immediately felt something was wrong with his body.

"Gah! Gah! Gah!"

He felt as if he were in a volcano and the raging flames scorched his body over and over.

Jiang Chenyi took a step back while watching coldly as the man rolled frantically on the ground and gasping for air with his eyes bulging as if they might pop out.

Seeing him in such agony, Jiang Chenyi "kindly" reminded him: "You're burdened with sin and lacking in Merit. Only by accepting punishment and replenishing your Merit can you escape this burning torment."

His tone was so gleeful that no one would believe he wasn't enjoying the situation!

It was strange.

Despite feeling like his consciousness was about to be completely consumed by the flames, President Lu could still hear Jiang Chenyi's words clearly.

President Lu refused to believe it.

With trembling hands, he tried to signal his bodyguards to help him up.

Unfortunately, his three bodyguards were useless as they were still unable to get up after being beaten by Jiang Chenyi.

"Worth... worthless!"

By the time the three finally managed to crawl to their feet, President Lu had been burning for nearly half an hour.

Those thirty minutes almost melted him entirely, yet he stubbornly refused to pass out.

This was exactly the effect Jiang Chenyi wanted.

If he fainted, how could it be considered suffering?

Watching their retreating figures, Jiang Chenyi revealed a meaningful smile.

"It's useless, all of it is useless."

After finally making it to the hospital and undergoing a series of tests, President Lu heard the doctor cautiously suggest, "Perhaps... you should visit the psychiatric department?"

There wasn't a single burn or scorch mark on his body, yet he kept screaming about being on fire.

The doctor deeply suspected he had a mental issue.

With no physical injuries, how could they treat him? Of course, there was no way to treat him!

Furious at the result, President Lu huffed and puffed before he eventually decided to summon a "Master."

Since the young man had used strange methods, he could only turn to a fellow Master for help!

After dealing with this major trouble, Jiang Chenyi returned to the supermarket and examined the bell once more.

He held it in his palm to observe it carefully while mentally bombarding the supermarket: "Supermarket, what on earth is going on here?"

The bell was covered in talismans inscribed with Merit that indicate that the person protecting this Spirit was undoubtedly a good person.

And good people... generally... wouldn't specifically protect an evil Spirit, right?

Moreover, this Spirit had just protected him!

["Hmm... such a heavy killing intent. A soldier with plenty of Merit. He can be saved."]

Huh? What does "can be saved" mean?

Jiang Chenyi was momentarily stunned but soon the mechanical metallic voice rang out again: ["Feed it Merit, and the Spirit inside can awaken."]

Jiang Chenyi fell silent because he felt puzzled and asked, "But the Spirit is already deceased. Wouldn't it be better to let him rest in peace?"

Before he could finish speaking, a piece of paper slowly drifted down and covered his entire face.

"Ugh! What are you... huh??? This can be a commission?"

The paper wasn't anything else—it was Jiang Chenyi's third commission: awaken the Spirit in the bell and successfully make a deal with him.

Him? So it's a male Spirit.

Jiang Chenyi clicked his tongue.

Since it was a commission, he had no choice but to proceed.

He cradled the bell in his hands before gently shaking it and once again heard the Spirit's inner voice: ["I want to... save people... save people..."]

Compared to yesterday, the voice had grown even weaker and if this continued, the Spirit would eventually vanish.

Thinking about the information the supermarket had revealed, and the fact that this Spirit had once been a soldier, Jiang Chenyi felt a pang of sorrow.

A soldier, who had passed away for who knows how long, was still concerned about protecting others.

"Ah... even if it's not a commission, I'll take good care of you."

Although he believed that eternal rest was the best destination for a spirit, if the other party was unwilling, he wouldn't force it.

He tightly held the small bell in both hands and a soft golden light gradually emanated from his body.

As the golden light appeared, a faint pattern also emerged on Jiang Chenyi's neck before spreading across his shoulders and collarbone.

From a distance, it looked like a blooming golden flower.

This was the symbol of his selection by the supermarket.

He gathered this Merit golden light onto the bell to slowly nurture the spirit within.

To ensure that this spirit could be nurtured at all times, Jiang Chenyi specifically traded with the supermarket for a rope.

He threaded the small bell onto the rope and tied it around his wrist as a bracelet.

This rope was no ordinary cheap item; it was impervious to blades and fire, and could extend infinitely to be used as a whip.

Most importantly, the gold and silver intertwined color matched beautifully with the silver bell.

And the bell, while being nurtured, no longer transmitted any inner voices when shaken.

For the inner voice to come out, it would inevitably consume energy.

The spirit inside was clever as it knew that it was being nurtured, so it obediently withdrew its voice.

.........

After two peaceful days, the Luo-Zhang couple asked if he had time to visit Ancheng.

"If you're coming, I'll have Old Luo drive to pick you up!"

"No, no, no!" Jiang Chenyi quickly declined their kind offer.

Because he preferred taking the high-speed train—it was convenient, fast, and more comfortable.

Hearing this, Zhang Miaomiao didn't insist, but she had Luo Qiuming go to the high-speed train station early to pick him up.

When Jiang Chenyi arrived at the exit, the first thing he saw was a man wearing a mask and huge sunglasses while holding a large sign that read—Little Jiang!

The sign was also adorned with colorful little flowers, all looking quite flamboyant.

For a moment, Jiang Chenyi had the urge to turn around and pretend he didn't know this person.

It was... ahem... embarrassing!

But he couldn't act on this thought because Luo Qiuming spotted him: "Little Jiang! Over here! I'm here!"

With this shout, everyone's attention turned to the flamboyant sign.

Seeing the people around looking over, Jiang Chenyi felt like his hair was about to stand on end.

He quickly ran over to grab Luo Qiuming's hand and pulled him outside.

'Stop shouting, bro! It's so embarrassing and awkward QuQ'

Contrary to him, Luo Qiuming not only didn't feel embarrassed but was also quite enthusiastic: "Hey! I finally understand why fans like to hold signs to welcome celebrities at the airport. I was really happy when I saw you."

As a movie star, even if he kept a low profile, he had definitely been greeted by fans at the airport before.

Previously, he didn't quite understand why fans would endure hours of cold just to see him once at the airport.

He felt sorry for them, but he didn't understand.

But now he got it; for someone you admire, no matter the hardships, you'd want to catch a glimpse of them.

The more he thought about it, the more moved he became, and tears welled up in his eyes.

Jiang Chenyi was pulling him towards the parking lot when he turned around and saw that Luo Qiuming was on the verge of crying.

"..." He tried hard to recall how he had made the person cry.

Fortunately, Luo Qiuming quickly regained his composure and the redness in his eyes only lasted for a few seconds.

Jiang Chenyi: As expected of a film emperor...

When the two returned home, Zhang Miaomiao was kneeling on the floor while nervously staring at the bright red fruit.

Seeing Jiang Chenyi arrive, she finally breathed a sigh of relief: "Little Jiang, come quickly and see if this is ripe yet? How should I pick it? Do I need to use jade or gold tools to pluck it?"

Jiang Chenyi paused for a moment with his expression somewhat complicated.

'This isn't the Ginseng Fruit from Journey to the West... Is it really necessary to go to such lengths?'

If he had voiced this thought, he would surely have received a solemn nod from the couple: "Of course it's necessary!"

This was the child they had been longing for!

"No need, just pick it directly then split it in half, and each of you eat one half."

Even though he said this, Zhang Miaomiao's hands were still trembling so badly that she couldn't even touch it, let alone pick it.

As for Luo Qiuming... forget it, his reaction was even more intense than his wife's, as if he was about to faint.

Jiang Chenyi had no choice but to do it himself.

He strode over and, under the horrified gazes of the two, roughly plucked the fruit before forcefully split it in half, and quickly shoved each piece into their mouths.

And before they could even taste it, the fruit instantly melted in their mouths.

They instinctively swallowed and consumed the fruit.

"Does this mean we can have a child now?" Zhang Miaomiao hugged her stomach with her expression a mix of tears and laughter.

She and Luo Qiuming gazed at each other deeply: "Honey~ we're going to have a child!"

"Darling~ you'll have to bear the hardship from now on!"

Jiang Chenyi stood beside them and watched the couple with a subtle expression.

Finally, he couldn't help but interrupt their emotional moment: "Sorry to disturb, but the supermarket's products are actually quite scientific."

"For example, this fruit only ensures that you can have a child, but the necessary steps before that still need to be taken..."

Worried that they might not understand, Jiang Chenyi added: "It's the kind of interaction that certain platforms don't allow to be written about below the neck... you know what I mean, right?"

'Understand... how could they not understand?'

But two middle-aged people and nearing forty listening to a young man in his early twenties talk about this instantly made them blush with embarrassment.

"Ahem... we understand! We get it!"

Luo Qiuming was initially a bit shy and was stammering but then his excitement took over, and he looked at his wife with sparkling eyes like a puppy.

Zhang Miaomiao felt so embarrassed by his gaze that she quickly covered her face and looked down.

Jiang Chenyi, being very perceptive, took his leave: "Zhao Jiamin is looking for me, so I'll head off now! You can go for a blood test at the hospital in about a week or so, bye!"

He quickly left the scene and rushed to a bench downstairs.

The cool breeze dissipated the heat on his face, and after a long while, he chuckled.

"How wonderful!"
