Chapter 17: Video call

Online Dating Fiasco with the Campus Heartthrob (DATING)

Ji Su sat at his desk while thinking hard for several minutes before deciding to give up on asking for a nude. "Xiao Qiao, I think I’ll just ask for a normal selfie."

Qiao Jin didn’t understand. "Why?"

Ji Su explained, "Asking for that kind of photo doesn’t fit Meng Meng’s persona, and the scumbag might not even send it."

"That’s true..." Qiao Jin stroked his chin in agreement. "The scumbag probably has other people’s private photos, so he’d be cautious about this. We don’t want to scare him off."

Ji Su nodded: "That's exactly what I mean."

After spending some time together, he realized that the other person was intelligent and perceptive, and would surely suspect his intentions.

Of course, there was another reason—he really didn’t want to see a certain part of another guy’s body, especially one that was so intimidating...

Qiao Jin’s eyes darted around: "What if you video call him and trick him into a nude chat?"

Ji Su: "Get lost..."

"Just kidding, haha!" After laughing, Qiao Jin turned serious again. "As long as we know what the scumbag looks like, we can find out his real identity and hand him over to our senior. Let her decide how to deal with him."

After discussing, Ji Su opened WeChat and typed with a straight face, pretending to be coquettish.

Meng Meng: [Big brother, you send first~]

Meng Meng: [I haven’t been able to meet you recently, but Meng Meng really wants to see you, wuwu...]

G: [Oh?]

Ji Su pursed his lips and continued typing.

Meng Meng: [I’ve been dreaming about you...]

G: [I don’t have any selfies on my phone.]

Meng Meng: [You can take one now!]

Meng Meng: [Cat eagerly waiting.jpg]

After sending this message, the other side fell silent.

Qiao Jin wondered: "Could the scumbag be looking for a fake photo online?"

As soon as he finished speaking, a photo popped up in the chat.

Ji Su immediately clicked to enlarge it and his gaze first drawn to the well-defined abs.

The familiar eight-pack abs and the V-line then his eyes traced up the toned waist and chest, past the broad shoulders, and finally landed on his face in the mirror.

Sharp, deep features, as if carved, with slightly damp bangs resting on high brow bones.

A pair of dark eyes that were slightly narrowed and were coldly gazing into the mirror.

Handsome and flawless while exuding a cold, sensual aura.

Ji Su’s mind went blank, as if struck by a bolt of lightning that leave him completely stunned.

"Did he send it?" Qiao Jin, still unaware, leaned over. "Is the scumbag ugly—"

His voice trailed off abruptly, as if cut off by something.

For a moment, the dorm fell into an eerie silence.

"What the hell?" After a while, Qiao Jin was the first to recover. "No way! This can’t be possible!"

Ji Su slowly raised his hands then clenched them into fists, and rubbed his eyes hard.

When he opened his eyes again, the same face was still there.

"It’s really Gu Zhao..." Ji Su blinked. "Qiao Jin, are we dreaming?"

"Wait a second." Qiao Jin pinched his own arm hard and yelped in pain. "Ouch! Not a dream!"

Ji Su instinctively rubbed his arm while still looking dazed.

"No way—" Qiao Jin picked up the phone and scrutinized the photo. "How is this possible?"

Ji Su opened his mouth: "I also think it’s impossible."

"First of all, if Gu Zhao wanted to date, he’d just have to snap his fingers, and a crowd of men and women would flock to him." Qiao Jin began counting on his fingers. "Second, Gu Zhao’s family is super rich. The money he scammed from our senior probably isn’t even enough for his monthly allowance."

Ji Su: "I don’t know..."

"This is too absurd." Qiao Jin shook his head. "Gu Zhao as an online scammer? What’s in it for him?"

"There must be some mistake." Ji Su’s rationality gradually returned as he switched to his main WeChat account. "I need to ask our senior what’s going on."

Ji Su: [Senior, are you sure the WeChat ID you gave me is correct?]

If there’s any misunderstanding, the most likely possibility is that he added the wrong person from the start.

Lin Yan: [What’s wrong, Xiao Susu?]

Lin Yan: [The WeChat ID should be correct!]

Ji Su didn’t dare say he had added Gu Zhao, so he vaguely replied.

Ji Su: [Senior, I think I might have added the wrong person. The other person is also a student at our school.]

Lin Yan: [What? From our school?]

Lin Yan: [No way!]

Ji Su: [Senior, please double-check.]

Lin Yan: [Okay, wait a second. I’ll look through the chat records!]

Ji Su held his phone while anxiously waiting for the result.

A minute later, a reply popped up in the chat.

Lin Yan: [Oh no, oh no. I think I really got the WeChat ID wrong...]

Ji Su: "..."

Lin Yan: [This really isn’t my fault. That long string of WeChat IDs is hard to remember. Just two wrong letters and it’s completely different...]

Ji Su: [Senior, are you sure the other person isn’t the one you wanted to get revenge on?]

Lin Yan: [Yes, yes. I’ve never seen this profile picture or WeChat nickname before.]

Ji Su: [Okay, I understand.]

Lin Yan: [Wait, Ji Su, who did you add?]

Ji Su: [Senior, it’s a bit complicated. I’ll explain later.]

Qiao Jin, sitting beside him, was almost dying of impatience: "What did our senior say?"

Ji Su put down his phone: "Qiao Jin, we really added the wrong person."

So, all this time, he had been sending various suggestive photos, calling him "big brother" all day, and acting coquettishly towards Gu Zhao?

That walking iceberg, Gu Zhao?

Just thinking about the campus heartthrob’s icy gaze made Ji Su shiver uncontrollably.

"We’re doomed..." Qiao Jin plopped down onto a chair. "Of all people, why did we have to add Gu Zhao?"

Ji Su propped his head on his hand and also did not know what to say.

"No, no, no. All we know now is that the other person isn’t the scumbag, but that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s Gu Zhao himself!" Qiao Jin suddenly thought of something. "What if the other person is just using Gu Zhao’s photos for online dating?"

Hearing this, a glimmer of hope sparked in Ji Su’s heart: "That’s also a possibility."

"At this point, we might as well verify it." Qiao Jin suggested. "You can video call him, but just make sure to turn off your camera first."

Ji Su: "That’s the only way."

He switched back to his alternate account and noticed that G had sent him a new message.

.......

Gu Zhao stood shirtless in the bathroom while scrutinizing his reflection in the mirror.

The bright light above highlighted the contours of his muscles.

"Brother Gu, are you still using the bathroom?" Wang Mingzhe’s urgent voice came from outside. "I really can’t hold it anymore!"

Gu Zhao said: "Come in."

"Alright!" Wang Mingzhe twisted the doorknob and hopped into the bathroom on one foot.

But as soon as he looked up, he was so shocked that he nearly fell flat on his face and barely managed to grab the doorframe.

"Brother Gu, you—" Wang Mingzhe’s eyes widened. "Why are you shirtless for no reason?"

Unlike other guys who liked to go shirtless, Gu Zhao always wore a T-shirt even after showering in the dorm and maintaining a well-dressed appearance at all times.

He had even joked with Zhou Yang that Brother Gu probably had a built-in cooling system, with such a low body temperature that he needed clothes to keep warm.

Gu Zhao turned around and took a step towards him: "Do you think there’s anything wrong with me?"

Wang Mingzhe was confused: "What do you mean, wrong?"

"My face, my body." Gu Zhao asked expressionlessly. "Is there anything wrong?"

"What—" Wang Mingzhe finally understood and shouted, "Brother Gu, are you insulting me?"

Gu Zhao was baffled: "Insulting you how?"

Wang Mingzhe clung to the doorframe while looking indignant: "Oh, so I’m not even worthy of being insulted by you, huh?"

Gu Zhao: "..."

Seeing that he wasn’t going to get an answer, he stopped wasting words and pulled on a black T-shirt.

"Alright, alright. Your abs are perfect, your chest is perfect, and your face is so handsome it’s criminal." Wang Mingzhe showered him with compliments, then couldn’t help but ask, "What on earth happened to you tonight?"

Gu Zhao: "Nothing."

"Oh! I know!" Wang Mingzhe’s mind worked quickly. "Did your online crush finally ask you for a photo?"

Gu Zhao walked to the door then grabbed Wang Mingzhe’s collar, and effortlessly lifted him into the bathroom: "Talk less."

Wang Mingzhe poked his head out and shouted again: "Brother Gu, you should have confidence in yourself. You’re the campus heartthrob of A University!"

Zhou Yang, who was reading, looked up: "What? What happened?"

"Nothing." Gu Zhao pulled out a chair and sat down before opening his WeChat again.

It had been ten minutes since he sent that selfie, and there was still no response from the other side.

His handsome brows furrowed slightly as he began typing in the input box.

G: [Why aren’t you saying anything?]

At the same time, Ji Su on the other end took a deep breath and clicked to start a video call then quickly turned off his camera.

"Ding ding ding ding ding~"

The ringtone sounded, and Ji Su’s heartbeat quickened with the rhythm, as if awaiting the final judgment.

A few seconds later, the video call connected.

Ji Su held his breath. He did not even dare to look directly at the screen.

The video was dark at first while the camera was shaking slightly, and a deep, magnetic voice came through: "Why are you video calling me?"

"Um..." Ji Su had just started speaking when his arm was pinched.

Qiao Jin exaggeratedly mouthed: "Use a cute voice!"

Ji Su remembered and tried to pitch his voice higher: "Big brother~ Why can’t I see your face?"

After a few more seconds, light finally came through.

A handsome, aloof face appeared on the screen with his gaze seemingly less cold than usual.

Ji Su cautiously lifted his lashes and glanced at the screen.

The last bubble of hope popped with a "snap."

Gu Zhao leaned against the balcony railing with his dark eyes slightly narrowed: "Why can’t I see you?"

Ji Su almost instinctively hung up the video call.

"Holy crap..." Qiao Jin was almost suffocating and was gasping for air. "I never thought I’d witness Brother Gu’s video call in person!"

However, Ji Su couldn’t hear anything at the moment.

His mind felt like an old, broken cassette recorder that were replaying that eight words over and over—

"Revenge is a must, dig three feet, three feet..."
