Chapter 115: No Man is an Island (1)

The End Of The World (WORLD)

A handsome man squatted on a massive rock with his expression calm as he gazed at the unconscious man before him.

Unconscious?

Maybe in the next moment, he might truly be dead.

The man lying on the ground had his entire left side scorched black, the most tragic part being his limbs and all the bones in his body had been shattered by a tremendous shockwave.

Despite his tough skin, four or five of his ribs were broken, with one even piercing his internal organs, causing fatal internal bleeding.

But all of this was merely Qi Yang's speculation.

When he woke up, S1 was already in this half-dead state.

He had no idea how long he had been unconscious—perhaps three days, or maybe just one.

Time had allowed the Mutated Beast beside him to recover from its severe injuries to a certain extent, leaving only what seemed to Qi Yang like inevitably fatal wounds.

Yet, even in S1's current state, Qi Yang firmly believed that just one more fatal blow would likely end the Mutated Beast's life.

Its regenerative abilities were astonishing, and its Special Ability to control the air left humans with almost no hope of victory. But even so, it was still just a Mutated Beast—it was never a...

God.

Qi Yang had been squatting on this rock and watching the Mutated Beast heal its wounds at an excruciatingly slow pace for ten days now.

When hungry, he would catch something to eat; when thirsty, he would drink from the rainwater collected on the island.

In fact, given Qi Yang's current physical condition, even drinking seawater wouldn't cause him any harm.

He had long known that his body had likely been altered by the nearly-dead Mutated Beast before him.

When exactly did it happen...

Qi Yang narrowed his long, narrow eyes in thought for a while before finally arriving at an answer: "That kiss, perhaps..."

His voice gradually faded into the icy, biting sea breeze, with no one to answer and just leaving an overwhelming sense of loneliness. Yet, Qi Yang slowly began to smile.

He lowered his beautiful eyes to gaze coldly at the dying Mutated Beast on the ground, as if speaking to himself: "To transform my body to this extent, it seems you paid quite a price too... S1."

The only response was the howling, salty sea wind.

In truth, ever since S1 led the Mutated Beasts and appeared before Qi Yang for the first time, he had known about the changes in his body: an incredibly fast regenerative ability, skin tone and physical condition approaching that of the Mutated Beast. Though he hadn't developed a Special Ability, his body was already worlds apart from that of an ordinary human.

"If it weren't for this... I probably would have died long ago."

By the end, his words were completely swallowed in his throat.

His silent gaze remained locked on S1's unconscious face and did not move away for a long time. After an unknown period, he suddenly stood up, turned, and walked away to drink water.

The action was decisive and resolute, and he averted his gaze with remarkable speed, as if afraid... that if he looked for even one more second, he wouldn't be able to stop himself from executing the Mutated Beast before him.

This place, referred to as a small island, is essentially just a tiny hill protruding above the sea level.

The entire island is less than a hundred square meters in size, with a few tall coconut trees and a small depression that collects rainwater.

Beyond that, there is nothing else—not even a single living creature to be seen.

After drinking some water, Qi Yang quickly sat back down to resume the same actions he had been repeating every day since he woke up—

Staring at this Mutated Beast and talking to himself.

Sometimes he wondered, perhaps in the next second, this Mutated Beast would die?

But the beast's astonishingly tenacious and terrifying self-healing ability repeatedly silenced the words in his heart.

He could only watch as the shattered bones gradually solidified, the twisted limbs slowly returned to their original shape, the gaping hole in the chest healed and closed, and the face, which had been obliterated by Stab-3, restored to its former appearance.

S1 was not the most attractive humanoid creature Qi Yang had ever seen.

Since joining the S City Base Research Institute as a parachuted core researcher, many ordinary people who had not undergone Evolution had tried to latch onto him and see him as a future diamond bachelor.

Before the apocalypse, he had encountered the most bewitchingly beautiful movie stars, even those delicate and elegant ladies who seemed to emerge from the water like lotus flowers. But in his eyes, these people were nothing more than skeletons wrapped in human skin—there was never any distinction of beauty or ugliness.

But gradually, he began to think that S1 actually looked quite good.

In its slumber, it lacked the dangerous aura of impending death or the ruthless determination of a hellish warrior.

Instead, it simply lay there with its eyes closed and sleeping peacefully.

Its features were so beautiful that it resembled a sleeping beauty, with a translucent, fair complexion as if waiting for a prince's tender kiss to awaken it from its nightmare.

Qi Yang felt that it was only because he had seen the Mutated Beast's grotesque and decayed appearance after the bombing that he now found its current state appealing.

"So quiet... It wouldn't be so bad if you never woke up."

Qi Yang's voice carried a deep sigh that were tinged with a sense of helplessness and melancholy, as if he were cherishing this rare moment of leisure: sitting leisurely on this large, cold rock while idly daydreaming and talking, without having to keep every cell in his body tense, without...

Watching this Mutated Beast sleep so peacefully.

As if there had never been any conflict, never any struggle.

There was nothing in the outside world that required his attention, no endless experiments, no countless enemies, no racial conflicts and no changes to the Earth.

This isolated island was cut off from the world.

Only the relentless crashing of waves against the shore over the years made any noise.

Not a single seabird could be seen, and even the insects were hidden deep underground that made them hard to notice.

Apart from the rustling of leaves caused by the sea breeze, Qi Yang could only spend his days bored and watching S1 slowly recover.

He gazed at that exquisitely handsome face, as if meticulously carved by nature's finest chisel, slowly becoming entranced.

Ignoring the overwhelming aura that was usually hard to look at directly, after observing for a full ten days, Qi Yang finally came to a conclusion—

"He really is... too perfect."

His facial features adhered to the golden ratio, where adding a bit would make him too flamboyant, and subtracting a bit would make him too plain.

S1's face truly seemed as if it had been measured with the most perfect ruler.

As the newly formed fair skin slowly covered the last wound on his jawline, Qi Yang couldn't help but swallow as his Adam's apple bobbed up and down.

This Mutated Beast's presence had always been too overpowering, exuding a dangerous and ruthless aura of death. Only when all of that disappeared could one notice his overly perfect features.

He wasn't the most handsome Qi Yang had ever seen, but he was undoubtedly the most proportionate.

Even David, the epitome of human beauty in Western art, didn't possess such meticulous craftsmanship.

"Are you really... the ultimate result of biological Evolution?"

The faint voice was drowned out by the cold sea breeze and towering waves.

The glimmer of light in Qi Yang's eyes grew dimmer as his brows slowly furrowing, and a complex, indescribable expression appeared on his pale, gaunt face.

And now, he had all the time in the world.

The sun that was devoid of warmth, slowly descended from the western horizon to paint a beautiful and vibrant strip of purple-blue clouds at the farthest point where the sky met the sea.

Qi Yang looked up expressionlessly at that long streak with his mood sinking bit by bit, though a faint light still struggled in his eyes.

He vaguely remembered that when Stab-3 was successfully launched, Zhang Bendan hadn't aimed accurately.

Using the High-torque strong electric nuclear magnetic cannon as the launcher, Stab-3 had a more confined explosion range that converted the shell's energy into a pure energy beam.

That beam had grazed past him and S1, with S1 quickly deploying a thick defensive layer—a layer so dense it was visible to the naked eye as a deep black.

He felt his body being flung by the violent explosion, and when he woke up, he was already unconscious on this isolated island.

S1's strength had far exceeded his expectations.

If things continued like this...

No one could guarantee what terrifying changes the world would undergo when he woke up.

The last glimmer of struggling light in his pupils completely vanished.

Qi Yang lowered his head as his cold, ruthless gaze calmly fixed on the still-unconscious humanoid Mutated Beast.

With a gaze that even he couldn't understand—one that was almost greedy—he slowly scanned every inch of this person's body, from the slightly dry and dull black hair to the festering yet not fully healed wound on the calf.

Finally, his gaze settled on the faintly rising and falling chest.

Qi Yang slowly crouched down before extending his right hand to gently press it against S1's left chest

There, a vigorous and healthy heart was beating forcefully that regulating the cells throughout the body for healing and recovery.

Even though the Mutated Beast appeared to be recovering well on the surface, in reality, its entire body was teetering on the edge of danger.

With just a gentle push, it would plummet from the highest point of the cliff and be doomed to eternal damnation.

Qi Yang's palm rested lightly above the heart, separated only by a thin layer of fabric and a thin layer of muscle.

The heart beat vigorously, a testament to the force of life.

Qi Yang leaned down before pressing his right ear close to the heart.

"Thump—"

"Thump—"

The message of survival made his eyes gradually moisten.

When he straightened up, he realized a crystal-cold tear had rolled down from his eye before landing with a soft "plop" on S1's pale, bloodless lips.

His fingers suddenly clenched.

When intelligence reaches a certain level, emotional intelligence is no longer so low as to be oblivious to one's own feelings.

Qi Yang looked at the Mutated Beast before him.

Even though he had deliberately tried to hypnotize himself into ignoring the deep-seated emotions within, he now had to admit—

"You are special, S1."

When this Mutated Beast, with its almost naive expression, recklessly and stubbornly stood in front of him to block the fatal boulder; when this Mutated Beast, with all the strength of its life, kissed his cold, lifeless body and brought him back to life.

He had already understood deeply.

There was only one outcome for him and this Mutated Beast—

To die together.

To live together.

Suddenly grabbing a large, jagged stone from the ground, Qi Yang hurled it with all his might from above and aimed straight for S1's heart.

His action was without hesitation as the sharp edge of the stone striking with force!

"Cough…"
