The Green Tea is Always Targeting The Wrong Person (GREENTEA)
Yue Chu sat cross-legged on the swiveling executive chair with his fingers interlocked and his deep gaze fixed ahead.
The icy blue light illuminated his delicate and handsome features, making him appear like an ethereal being amidst the forest mist when he wasn't smiling—both elegant and strikingly beautiful.
Beneath his white lab coat was a crisply ironed shirt with its collar perfectly smooth and buttoned up to the top, revealing only his alluring Adam's apple.
Little Ball had been watching him all along.
In this silent, quiet world, it seemed that merely gazing at him from afar was enough to stave off boredom.
Yet, the red gauze inside it would sometimes remain still, then suddenly spin rapidly akin to a human's fluttering heartbeat, completely beyond the control of reason.
【So handsome...】
【No, not handsome at all!】
After a moment of silence.
【I'm too bored now, just one glance, and I won't look again.】
【Actually, I don’t want to look at all.】
【Nothing to do.】
【I’m observing him to avoid being fooled again.】
Yue Chu’s gaze shifted toward Little Ball.
What did that mean?
He was certain he hadn’t slipped up.
Why would Little Ball think it had been fooled?
Something was off.
Yue Chu felt he might have missed some crucial information.
The secrets within Little Ball seemed more complex than he had imagined.
He leaned closer to examine Little Ball through the transparent container.
The more he looked, the faster the red gauze inside Little Ball spun, and swirling with golden sand like a shifting nebula.
【He’s looking at me.】
【But that’s normal. I’m strong, and even on Bora Star, I’m quite popular.】
Yue Chu couldn’t help but laugh, surprised by Little Ball’s narcissism.
【He’s laughing.】
【I already said I don’t like it when he laughs.】
【His laugh is so ugly.】
【And he always smiles at others.】
Yue Chu reached inside to touch what could roughly be considered the top of Little Ball’s head through the layers of protection.
He was certain Little Ball must have taken the wrong medicine, otherwise why would it keep spouting such nonsense?
He didn’t want to listen to this drivel.
“Dr. Jiang dissected the mutated experimental subject but found nothing. The virus is mutating too quickly and far beyond our expectations.”
“Moreover, the virus wasn’t contagious before, but this time, everyone bitten has been infected to varying degrees.”
Yue Chu feigned concern as he let out a soft sigh with his brows slightly furrowed like the melancholy of autumn mist.
【Don’t frown, it’s not becoming.】
【The reason the virus mutated is because someone injected the experimental subject with the X Reagent.】
What?
If not for his composure, Yue Chu might have visibly reacted.
The virus mutation was actually being driven by someone behind the scenes.
Who was this person, and what was their goal?
His long-held suspicion was confirmed.
The root of the world’s destruction wasn’t simply the emergence of the virus but someone’s intent to exploit it.
Yue Chu pondered deeply.
Who could this person be...
【...】
【If we could communicate, we could tell him. Unfortunately...】
Yue Chu snapped out of his thoughts as he gently stroked Little Ball with a soft smile.
This little thing was indeed quite useful.
“Even though you can’t speak, every time I share my thoughts with you, I feel much more relaxed.”
“Despite being such a dangerous virus, it’s unexpectedly endearing.”
Yue Chu’s smile that was seen through the transparent container, directly imprinted itself on Yuan’s senses. His eyes, as if filled with falling starlight, were the brightest light Yuan had ever seen, illuminating his world and turning everything into color.
Wait!
Yuan couldn't help but grit his teeth.
This human was clearly the same with everyone.
[I don't need you to like me.]
[And I will never like you either.]
Yue Chu pretended not to hear and continued to play with him for a while (though in reality, he was the one playing), then stood up and left.
He needed to investigate who the hidden mastermind behind the scenes was.
After he left, the light on Little Ball flickered on and off that revealed his unsettled emotions.
[I won't go.]
[He can go wherever he wants and do whatever he wants. It has nothing to do with me.]
[...]
[But it's dangerous outside. He's too weak to protect himself.]
[I'm not going to protect him. I'm going to stop him.]
[Yes, that's it.]
A moment later, the light on Little Ball faded, and the Red Gauze inside seemed to lose its color as it sank dimly to the bottom.
Yue Chu walked through the winding corridor as the white walls illuminated by circular light tubes.
His footsteps were almost silent, like a cat and moving forward without a sound.
"Professor Yue! Where have you been again?"
Mu You stormed over with his round eyes filled with anger and his soft, bun-like face puffed up in frustration.
He had been busy in the lab, and when he turned around, Yue Chu was gone.
Even though Yue Chu didn't do much when he was there, at least he was present.
Mu You could always turn around and see that elegant, pine-like figure, which kept his anxiety at bay.
Yue Chu didn't expect to be caught red-handed and could only chuckle as he greeted, "Xiao You, what brings you here?"
Mu You was furious. "Don't change the subject. Why aren't you in the lab? What are you doing out here?"
This little guy had quite the temper.
Yue Chu raised an eyebrow inwardly but still spoke softly to soothe him. "I had something to take care of. I'll be back soon."
Mu You didn't believe him at all.
He crossed his arms and blocked Yue Chu's path, clearly indicating that he wouldn't let him pass without a proper explanation.
Yue Chu's gaze shifted slightly.
Of course, he wouldn't tell Mu You that because as a minor boss, Mu You himself was also a potential suspect.
"I'm going to see Dr. Jiang."
Mu You glanced at him.
What for?
Yue Chu leaned in close to his ear and whispered, "I'll tell you, but you have to keep it a secret for me."
Mu You's ears twitched, and he immediately lowered his head, afraid to reveal his flushed face.
Whispering in someone's ear like that was just too unfair!
The faint scent that came with Yue Chu's proximity enveloped him, and the warm breath brushed against his ear that sent a tingling sensation through him.
Mu You felt his entire body tremble, yet he couldn't bring himself to move even an inch away.
He suppressed the urge to jump back with his face burning as he stubbornly held his ground.
Yue Chu smiled, which caused his eyes to curve. "Dr. Jiang likes Director Lan and wants me to give him some advice on how to pursue someone."
So, since Jiang Quan doesn't like Lan Yi, you don't need to keep an eye on him.
What the hell?!
Mu You thought he must have misheard.
His cousin, that blockhead, was seeking advice on how to pursue someone? Wait, since when did his cousin's crush become Lan Yao?
Yue Chu made a "shh" gesture while blinking lightly and speaking with conviction. "I promise it's the truth. Love makes people blind, after all. This is our little secret. I can trust you, right?"
Mu You nodded dazedly.
The information was a bit overwhelming, and he needed some time to process it.
However... the corners of his mouth quickly curled up, and he quite liked this secret that belonged only to him and Yue Chu.
It felt like having this secret had brought the two of them much closer.
Mu You coughed lightly twice, then said seriously, "I understand. Go ahead, and come back quickly."
He's really easy to fool, Yue Chu thought leisurely.
But how could someone as smart as Mu You not see that Jiang Quan's affection wasn't for Lan Yi but for Lan Yao?
Perhaps it's just as he said - love makes people blind??
Yue Chu found Lan Yi outside Jiang Quan's laboratory.
The tall, handsome man stood with his hands in his pockets while leaning casually against the snow-white wall.
His deep peach blossom eyes that were usually so expressive, were now devoid of any trace of a smile as he quietly watched Jiang Quan bustling about inside the lab.
His eyes were exceptionally well-formed and always giving off an air of deep affection. And the way he was gazing at Jiang Quan now made it impossible to doubt his sincerity.
No wonder Mu You was jealous of Jiang Quan... this little green tea wasn't just all talk - he had a dark heart indeed.
Just as Yue Chu was about to greet him, Lan Yi seemed to sense his presence and turned around.
His peach blossom eyes suddenly sparkled like stars and the corners of his mouth unconsciously deepened as he straightened up before he walked towards him.
The faint light cast on his chiseled features made Lan Yi appear almost radiantly handsome at this moment. His brown pupils reflected the blazing sun that stared unwaveringly at Yue Chu with an intensity that was both passionate and moving.
Yue Chu paused slightly because he was surprised by Lan Yi's heightened alertness.
He was confident in his own skills, yet Lan Yi had detected his approach even before he had intentionally revealed himself.
This extraordinary strength was no small matter - no wonder he had been able to protect Jiang Quan in the chaotic and bloody post-apocalyptic world.
Thinking this, Yue Chu felt slightly more at ease and more confident about the upcoming arrangements.
Yue Chu walked over with a smile and his long, thick eyelashes glazed with a faint silver light from the white lamps.
He nodded politely with his clear, water-like eyes fixed on Lan Yi, "Captain Lan, there's something I'd like to discuss with you. Do you have a moment?"
Lan Yi's gaze was intense - of course, he had time.
He led Yue Chu into a laboratory that hadn't been put into use yet, so there was no need to worry about being caught on camera.
The lab was empty, with cold, white rectangular tables holding various instruments that were all turned off.
The silence was so profound that one could almost hear the sound of a heartbeat.
Lan Yi's lips curved into a smile as his deep eyes swept over the empty space on the platform.
He particularly loved seeing Yue Chu in a white lab coat over a shirt.
The more layers there were, the more they concealed, and the more he wanted to peel them away like unwrapping a gift.
"What can I do for you, Professor Yue? Whatever it is, if I can help, I will do my utmost."
Lan Yi didn't make promises lightly, but once he did, he would definitely fulfill them.
Yue Chu appeared to hesitate for a moment, as if in deep thought before finally making up his mind.
His expression was grave, and he looked seriously into Lan Yi's eyes, as if entrusting his life with utmost solemnity.
"Captain Lan, right now, you're the only one I can trust. According to my research, someone has injected the X Reagent into the Experimental Subjects that cause the Luster Virus to mutate."
"At this point, I don't know who this person is, how many people are behind them, or what their goal is. But this person is extremely dangerous, and I want to ask you to help me investigate."
Lan Yi frowned - how could this be possible?
Those who could enter the research institute had undergone rigorous screening and were under constant surveillance.
How could anyone evade so many eyes and succeed?
However, he wouldn’t doubt Yue Chu’s words.
After a moment of contemplation, he said, “Professor Yue, please share all the information you have. I will do my utmost to investigate.”
As expected of the protagonist, upright and decisive.
After exchanging information, Yue Chu added, “Captain Lan, I have one more request.”
Lan Yi looked at him.
Since childhood, everyone had praised his eyes for their beauty, but he believed no one’s eyes could compare to Yue Chu’s.
Clear as snow, and breathtakingly beautiful.
Gazing into those eyes, Lan Yi felt he would agree to any request Yue Chu made.
“Please keep this matter confidential for now. Don’t inform anyone, including Director Lan, Professor Jiang, and Mu You.”
Lan Yi was slightly taken aback. “Why? It might not be appropriate to keep something this serious from my uncle.”
Yue Chu’s gaze shifted.
He naturally understood this reasoning, but Lan Yao was too dangerous.
As the ultimate boss, who knew if he had a hand in this?
He didn’t answer Lan Yi’s question and only looked at him earnestly with a hint of pleading.
A trace of vulnerability touched his brow that made it difficult to refuse his request.
Lan Yi… was even more powerless to resist.
His gaze deepened. “Alright, I promise you.”
