The Green Tea is Always Targeting The Wrong Person (GREENTEA)
【How can you be so foolish...】
As soon as Yue Chu entered the room, he heard Little Ball's complaint.
He raised an eyebrow slightly while wondering if this little thing had too much free time on its hands and always needing to scold him to feel at ease.
However, since Little Ball had once again helped him out, he decided not to make a big deal out of it.
Yue Chu took out a small square box.
The soil inside was still damp, and a tiny pink flower shyly peeked out from the emerald-green leaves with its delicate stamens dusted with yellow pollen.
"To thank you for always bringing me inspiration and luck, I’ve specially chosen a pot of Pearl Bloom for you. I hope you’ll like it."
He placed the flower pot directly in front of Little Ball so that it could admire the beautiful flower whenever it felt bored, sparing it from loneliness and the constant need to pick on him.
Inside Little Ball, a storm brewed.
The Red Gauze seemed to have been tossed into a washing machine as it spun rapidly.
【A gift...】
【Although it’s not particularly attractive, I’ll accept it since he put so much thought into it.】
Yue Chu chuckled softly as he watered the flower and noticed that Little Ball’s words didn’t quite match its feelings.
"If you don’t say anything, I’ll take it as you like it. When I’m not around, it’ll keep you company so you won’t feel so lonely."
【I’m not lonely.】
【You’re such a nuisance.】
【How did I end up meeting you?】
【Don’t think you can influence me.】
【If something happens, I won’t lift a finger to help you.】
Hearing this, Yue Chu deliberately leaned down to rest his head on the top of the container and his gaze lingering on Little Ball.
His clear eyes blinked slowly, bright and pure, as if holding the waters of the Milky Way, and drawing the stars to fall in love, shattering countless starlight.
"This place is more dangerous than I imagined. Sometimes I don’t even know what to do. Maybe in a few days, Lan Yao will discover my identity and use every means to force me to reveal my purpose. Or perhaps I’ll be unlucky enough to encounter an escaped Experimental Subject and be torn to pieces."
"At night, I can’t sleep well. It’s like walking barefoot on the edge of a knife, with every step filled with fear and trepidation."
"Luckily, I have you. If I couldn’t talk to you, I’d probably go mad before long."
"Thank you, Yuan."
A slight smile curved Yue Chu’s lips with his face radiating contentment and affection, like a blooming camellia, tender and captivating.
Even though Little Ball tried to hide it, it visibly trembled twice.
The Red Gauze surged like a towering wave crashing against a cliff and stirring up a thousand feet of white foam.
【...】
【I...】
【Anyway, I won’t protect you.】
【I’ll only help occasionally.】
【From time to time...】
【That’s it, don’t overthink it. And it’s definitely not because I like you. It’s just that you’re too weak.】
Knock! knock! knock!
The door was knocked that interrupted their private moment.
Mu You pushed the door open and, seeing Yue Chu leaning over the isolation container of the Luster Virus, couldn’t help but frown deeply.
He strode over and pulled him away.
"It’s dirty, so don’t get so close to it."
Yue Chu smiled with his gaze sweeping over Little Ball.
This irritable little thing was probably fuming.
【You’re the dirty one.】
【Your whole family is dirty.】
Yuan never expected to hear such disdain from Mu You’s mouth.
Has this guy forgotten his own identity?
Yue Chu smiled and shook his head: "With so many protective measures in place, I'll be fine."
Mu You glanced at Yuan as a trace of disgust flickering across his face, and pulled Yue Chu's wrist to lead him outside.
It was best to avoid touching such virus-laden things.
If it weren't for Yue Chu's research necessity, he wouldn't even have let him enter the storage room.
【Shameless.】
Yue Chu raised an eyebrow, being scolded again?
【Who allowed you to hold his hand?!】
Yue Chu silently looked at their intertwined hands but unsure who Little Ball was targeting.
But he soon found out.
Even though the ground was flat, Mu You suddenly seemed to trip over something as he stumbled forward.
Yue Chu intended to catch him, but a sudden numbness in his fingertips caused his outstretched hand to involuntarily loosen, and he could only watch as Mu You fell to the ground.
He was slightly stunned but a dark glint flashing in his eyes as he looked at his hand.
Little Ball seemed more dangerous than he had thought because it was even capable of attacking from a distance.
This meant that if Little Ball hadn't been quietly staying in the storage room, he might have had the chance to escape long ago.
"Are you okay? Let me help you up."
Yue Chu looked at Mu You with concern while reaching out to help him up, but before he could fully assist, Mu You slipped again and sat back down.
A hint of amusement flashed in Yue Chu's eyes.
This Little Ball had quite a vengeful streak.
Well, he'd better not try to help anymore today, or Mu You might never get up.
Mu You was so embarrassed he wished he could disappear into the ground.
Even the burning pain in his palms and knees couldn't distract him from his inner humiliation.
Especially since he had fallen in front of Yue Chu, who had now seen him in such a clumsy and awkward state that surely ruined his image.
Damn it, what was going on?
Yue Chu coughed lightly before pulling over a chair and placing it in front of Mu You then spoke softly, "How about you try holding onto the chair to see if you can stand up?"
Mu You, utterly mortified, blushed deeply as he used the chair to stand up.
This time, Little Ball finally calmed down and stopped tormenting him.
Once outside, Yue Chu had Mu You sit on the sofa while he fetched some medicinal oil from the first aid kit.
Despite the protective suit, Mu You's palms and knees were still red.
However, when faced with Mu You's pitiful gaze, Yue Chu found himself in a dilemma.
They were only a wall away from the storage room, and he felt that if he applied the medicine for Mu You, it might not help but instead make things worse for him.
Little Ball was small in size but had a big temper and a strong sense of vengeance.
Yue Chu tentatively attributed this inexplicable behavior to the peculiar possessiveness of an alien creature.
Perhaps it was just lonely.
At that moment, someone knocked on the door and entered.
It was none other than Lan Yi.
Yue Chu's eyes lit up, and he immediately picked up the medicinal oil while smiling as he approached.
Help had arrived.
If Lan Yi were to apply the medicine for Mu You, he certainly wouldn't refuse. After all, Lan Yi was the only one who could handle Little Ball.
Lan Yi, who just stepped through the door, was dazzled by Yue Chu's radiant smile.
In a daze, he didn't quite know what he was doing, only that the always-smiling, rosy lips parted and closed, with the voice that emerged like a bewitching melody and leaving him floating in a cloud of confusion.
By the time he came to his senses, he was already sitting across from Mu You with a bottle of medicinal oil in his hand.
The two of them exchanged glances, then subtly shifted their gazes away, though the looks in their eyes were not of shyness but of disgust.
Lan Yi's expression was cold, and the peach blossom eyes that usually carried a gentle smile were now devoid of any warmth, and instead exuded a chilling winter breeze.
He indifferently unscrewed the cap of the medicinal wine in his hand, poured some onto his palm, and rubbed it in.
'You like applying medicine, don’t you? Good! Then apply it! Apply it thoroughly!'
Mu You’s eyes were filled with resentment while deeply annoyed by Lan Yi’s untimely arrival. Yue Chu was about to apply the medicine for him, but this idle guy had to come and ruin it.
If he had any sense, he shouldn’t have stepped in.
At this moment, Mu You had completely forgotten that Lan Yi was the person he had secretly admired.
All the past fondness had turned to ashes in an instant and the once cherished red mole now was nothing more than a mosquito’s blood that made him feel utterly disgusted.
Lan Yi vigorously rubbed the medicine into Mu You’s wound with his strength evident from the way he had previously smashed the head of an experimental subject.
Mu You gritted his teeth in pain but dared not cry out.
He had already embarrassed himself enough in front of Yue Chu earlier; if he were to act unmanly and scream now, it would be the end of him.
Lan Yi coldly curled his lips: You like pretending, don’t you? Keep it up.
Mu You bit his lip in anger as a sharp glint flashing in his eyes: What a despicable and shameless guy! He’s doing this on purpose!
Meanwhile, Yue Chu sat leisurely to the side while sipping his coffee and a warm smile on his face as he watched the scene unfold.
It was truly harmonious, as if one thing naturally subdued another.
After applying the medicine, Lan Yi went to the bathroom and washed his hands ten times to make sure the nauseating sensation was completely gone before he walked out and called Yue Chu aside.
“I’ve checked all the surveillance footage, but there’s no trace of the person you mentioned.”
Yue Chu’s expression remained calm.
This result wasn’t unexpected.
If that person had the ability to inject the X Reagent into the experimental subject without anyone noticing, it meant they also had the ability to remain undetected.
He looked at Lan Yi seriously: “Thank you. I know this might make you doubt me, but I assure you, everything I’ve said is true.”
Little Ball would never lie, because he didn’t even know that Yue Chu could understand him.
Lan Yi’s gaze softened.
He knew, and how could he ever doubt Yue Chu?
“I believe you. Give me some more time, and I’ll continue investigating.”
Yue Chu breathed a sigh of relief as a smile spread to the corners of his eyes.
As long as Lan Yi was willing to keep digging, they would eventually find some clues.
“Thank you.”
Lan Yi gazed at Yue Chu’s smiling face with longing, feeling as though he could never get enough of it.
He had seen many beautiful people, but none had captivated him the way Yue Chu did.
He slowly leaned in while being drawn closer to those star-like eyes, mesmerized and wanted to hold them in his arms.
“So, what’s my reward?”
The close proximity slightly surprised Yue Chu.
His eyes flickered, and he couldn’t help but think: Has Lan Yi mistaken the target?
He took a subtle step back to try to create some distance, but Lan Yi followed closely, like a wolf closing in step by step.
Yue Chu raised an eyebrow but his smile remained unchanged: “What reward does Captain Lan want? Oh… I see.”
He walked over to the side then picked up a pen and paper from the table before he quickly wrote a line. After that, he folded the thin piece of paper, and placed it in Lan Yi’s palm.
Lan Yi held the small piece of paper in his hands with his eyes brimming with joy.
Although he hadn't received the sweet candy he had hoped for, the handwritten note from Yue Chu held a special significance.
This was a reward meant solely for him and something no one else had.
Yue Chu capped the pen and casually slipped it into the pocket of his coat then give a mysterious wink. "Wait until I leave before you look at it."
Lan Yi carefully smoothed out the note and treasured it by placing it in his wallet.
Among all the cards he carried, this single piece of paper was the most precious.
Glancing at the time, Lan Yi frowned slightly because he knew that he should head to the lab to pick up Jiang Quan.
What was once his duty now filled him with irritation.
How wonderful it would be if he could be transferred to Yue Chu's side—with his abilities, protecting two people would be more than enough.
Lan Yi put on his hat, as the wide brim casting a shadow over his deep eyes and adding a mysterious allure to his handsome face.
"I'll be off then."
Yue Chu waved and watched him leave.
A moment later, a smile played on his lips as he tucked his hands into his pockets and turned back toward the lab.
He had given Mu You enough time; surely, he must be done celebrating by now.
