Chapter 5

Marry Me, I'm Super Well-Behaved [Esports] (MARRY ME)

In hindsight, Ning Nanzhou realized he’d overreacted.

Hiding his fandom status wasn’t easy, but it wasn’t like "FAN" was stamped on his forehead. As long as he didn’t act too eager and feigned disinterest in gaming, it should be fine, right?

Phone calls were no substitute for WeChat’s instant messaging. Even if they added each other, he could just restrain himself from messaging daily, couldn’t he?

The moment that thought crossed his mind, he began doubting himself again.

Who could resist messaging their idol?!

Maybe rejecting the offer was a blessing in disguise?

Ning Nanzhou didn’t have time to dwell further—after booting up his computer back in his dorm, he realized he still had streaming hours to make up.

As soon as he logged into the streaming site, a chubby Little Yellow Bird greeted him warmly.

"Welcome back, esteemed V1 streamer. Your broadcast duration yesterday was 0 hours. You need to make up seventy hours this month."

Seven hours missed and now seventy to make up…

The white-haired boy glared at the bird with utter disdain before expressionlessly shoving it into a virtual blacklist. Ignoring the system's incessant chirping, he muted it and started his stream.

His online friends in the chat seemed to have been waiting for a while.

[New fan here. Does the streamer go live irregularly?]

[He used to be pretty punctual.]

[Son, why didn’t you stream yesterday? Do you know how worried Mom was?]

[Didn’t South have something to attend to the day before? Did things really get heated between guys?]

[Too exhausted to even stream???]

Starry Sky TV was notoriously strict—even fitness streamers would get flagged if their chests were too big.

Ning Nanzhou stared at the flourishing grassland of unchecked comments in his chat, briefly wondering if the moderators had clocked out early.

Seeing the wild speculations in the chat, he felt a twinge of guilt but kept his composure. "Can you guys not be so filthy-minded? Is your brain just a pile of yellow waste?"

[??? You have the nerve to call us filthy?!]

[Streamer, have you even read your own comments?]

[It’s only because Chi Yu is so indifferent—anyone else would’ve wrecked you by now.]

??? What about his comments?

Sure, he occasionally left some spicy remarks when he got carried away, but most of the time, he was just diligently showering praise… right?

Besides, he made sure to check in daily on fan forums, using his words to reform the haters. Wasn’t that the mark of a wholesome little fan?

Unexpectedly, the chat erupted into a South-style Word Chain.

Ning Nanzhou: ?????!

Ignorance was bliss—until he saw just how many spicy things he’d actually said!!!

He glanced at the cabinet where their marriage certificate was stored. It wasn’t just about hiding things from his fans…

If Chi Yu ever found out he was South, he’d be dead.

He suddenly felt like he was sitting on pins and needles.

His mind raced. He was just a small-time streamer—there was no way Chi Yu would ever watch his broadcasts. Plus, his headphones were so old, his voice wouldn’t even be recognizable.

He stroked his headset, never having appreciated its shabbiness more.

If he acted nothing like South in real life, surely no one would suspect him?

But the question was—how?

Ning Nanzhou couldn’t help but ask the chat, "What kind of person do you think I am?"

[??? Just say you want compliments.]

[Call me ‘Mommy’ and I’ll praise you.]

[At least twice!]

"Let me rephrase that." Ning Nanzhou pondered. "Do you think I’m a well-behaved person?"

The chat exploded.

[Do you have the wrong definition of ‘well-behaved’?]

[What well-behaved kid would say ‘Chi Yu, wreck me’?]

[Maybe well-behaved in bed.]

[No offense, but South doesn’t seem like the well-behaved type even in bed.]

[Biggest joke of the day—a yellow zone streamer calling himself well-behaved.]

Wait, wasn’t he just borderline before? Now he’s straight-up in the yellow zone?

Ning Nanzhou sighed in relief at the chat’s roasting. Clearly, no one associated him with being well-behaved. So if he acted like a saint in real life, no one would ever connect him to South.

Besides, his marriage with Chi Yu was purely for show. Their interactions wouldn’t be deep enough for his identity to be exposed.

His anxious heart finally settled as he went on a crazy streaming spree over the past two days, trying to salvage his perfect attendance record before finals week.

The good news was he'd nearly made up for his missed streams. The bad news? Probably because it was the end of the season, every match was filled with absolute nightmares, nearly depleting his sanity meter.

[South's been so diligent these past two days!]

[His work ethic moves me to tears]

[Guess things didn't work out with that guy from last time]

Ning Nanzhou was baffled by the "didn't work out" comment in chat.

He'd just finished an infuriating match where the Mid Laner and Jungler had hit it off halfway through. The two lovebirds spent their time strolling through the jungle together, radiating nauseating couple energy.

Fortunately, he still managed to win. Just as he was about to queue for another match, the Advent client popped up with an announcement:

"Dear user, the game will release a new version at 4 AM. The update will last three hours, during which the game will be inaccessible. Please plan your gaming schedule accordingly."

A new version already? I wonder if Starry Sky TV will have any events.

He closed the pop-up and queued up, only to get matched with yet another bot lane couple this time. Just reading their chat made his blood pressure spike.

[10:06] Don'tGankMeI'llFeed: Danger ahead! Proceed with caution!

[10:06] ColdHeartWarmth: Don't be scared, baby

[10:06] WarmYourHeart: Wuwuwu you're so sweet

[10:06] WarmYourHeart has been slain by 11111!

[10:07] ColdHeartWarmth has been slain by 11111!

Ning Nanzhou: "..."

Not long after this double kill, WarmYourHeart got ganked by the enemy Jungler again. But the most ridiculous part wasn't the gank—it was ColdHeartWarmth diving in to "save" them when they clearly couldn't win the fight.

[13:08] WarmYourHeart (Dead): You're too good to me

[13:08] ColdHeartWarmth (Dead): Silly baby, it's only right that I treat you well

The Jungler Don'tGankMeI'llFeed couldn't take it anymore and typed: "Can you two stop honeymooning in bot lane?" To which WarmYourHeart replied: "Someone's jealous."

Ning Nanzhou took a deep breath. "I don't care if you want to honeymoon in bot lane, but stop holding memorial ceremonies at your graves. At this rate, people will think you're having a Ghost Marriage instead of a honeymoon."

[HAHAHAHAHAHA too savage]

[So many conjoined twins in matchmaking]

[I live for watching our son roast people]

Perhaps the term "Ghost Marriage" was too devastating, because the bot lane duo actually toned it down after that and played properly for once.

Unfortunately, the bot lane couple had already fed the enemy team into an unstoppable monster, putting pressure on Ning Nanzhou too.

He finally managed to capitalize on the enemy's mistake and was about to pull off a 1-for-2 outplay when his phone suddenly rang.

Getting distracted during ranked was the worst. The interruption completely threw off his mechanics. He answered the call irritably, "Who is it?!"

If it was that idiot Xu Ye, he definitely wasn't helping him deal with his boyfriend issues this time (; ` O′)o.

To his surprise, after a brief pause, a deep, pleasant voice came through: "Your husband."

The stream couldn't hear the caller, but chat was already offering condolences.

[Who calls at a time like this?]

[I wouldn't even answer my own mother right now]

[Pretty sure your mom would kick you out first]

Just as everyone expected South to explode with rage—

The same streamer who'd been at war with couples moments ago suddenly asked his audience: "What should I wear? Any suggestions?"

[??? Son what are you saying]

[Are you going to meet some man?]

[Who said honeymoon turned Ghost Marriage?!]

As expected, asking online friends was useless.

Ning Nanzhou swiftly won the game and then opened his wardrobe.

The clothes in his wardrobe followed a very consistent style—all black, the kind a cool guy would love, with only slight variations between deep black and light black.

Remembering that he needed to act obedient in front of Chi Yu, his gaze slowly shifted to the sweater at the very edge.

It was a New Year’s gift from his childhood friend Chen Dongdong—a soft, fluffy white sweater with a delicate little cat pin on the chest.

When his naturally flamboyant friend had given it to him, they had exclaimed with sparkling eyes, "Sweetheart, if you wear this, no man will be able to take his eyes off you. No one!"

Under normal circumstances, he would never wear something like this, but to avoid having his identity exposed, he reluctantly put it on.

Ning Nanzhou quickly changed and rushed downstairs.

Today, Chi Yu was wearing a gray trench coat, which made him look even more reserved and untouchable.

Feeling slightly nervous, Ning Nanzhou asked, "What’s up?"

Chi Yu glanced at him calmly and handed him a bag. "You left your student ID at the hotel."

After taking the bag, Ning Nanzhou thanked him, and Chi Yu spoke up naturally, "We’ll need to coordinate the wedding arrangements later. Let’s exchange WeChat."

Ning Nanzhou froze at the mention of the wedding.

Truthfully, he also regretted not having added Chi Yu earlier, so this time, he immediately agreed. However, when he opened his profile page—he was stunned!

Why was his WeChat name… Chi Shen Cao | I’m So Obedient!!!

Peace. Death.
