Chapter 29: The Truth Behind the Swapped Daughters…

Hello, Welcome to Merit Supermarket (SUPERMARKET)

Standing nearly six feet three, with a robust build, even through his clothes, one could feel the solid muscles.

Especially the chest muscles…

The man who appeared before Jiang Chenyi had sharp eyebrows and bright eyes that exuded a sense of righteousness, though his complexion was somewhat pale, clearly indicating he had died from severe injuries.

He was the spirit that had been recuperating in the bell and had blocked Yu Min’s attack just moments ago.

“Finally awake, huh? I’ve gone through so much merit to feed you; if you hadn’t woken up soon, I would have considered giving up.”

Jiang Chenyi squinted while sizing up the spirit.

Judging by his attire, he suspected this man had died on the battlefield.

The man seemed a bit embarrassed as he lowered his head slightly and a hint of guilt in his eyes: “Sorry for causing you trouble.”

Jiang Chenyi was taken aback; this man’s voice…

He unconsciously swallowed, then straightened up, and waved his hand at the man: “Forget it, the supermarket gave me a commission; this is my job.”

Jiang Chenyi rubbed his ears vigorously and continued, “I’m currently recording a variety show, so it’s not convenient to host you right now. Let’s chat in detail after I finish my work and return to the supermarket.”

Saying this, he stroked the bell to forcibly pull the man back inside.

“Phew…” He let out a long breath while covering his face in exasperation after a moment.

Great, after living for over twenty years, he didn’t even know he was an auditory person!

Oh, wait, he didn’t react this strongly to anyone else’s voice, only to that spirit’s voice…

“This is really troublesome!” Jiang Chenyi rubbed his ears again while trying to suppress the heat in them.

“Supermarket… get him a change of clothes; just deduct the merit from me.” After saying this in his mind to the supermarket, he set off back.

The third commission was finally completed, but Jiang Chenyi had no mind to calculate how many merit points he had earned.

Upon returning to the cabin, the only people left besides the five guests were the director himself.

Seeing him return, everyone turned to look.

“Little Jiang, where did you go?” Luo Qiuming asked anxiously.

With the current online discourse focused on Yu Min and Jiang Chenyi, he was worried Jiang Chenyi might see some negative comments.

Jiang Chenyi sighed deeply and explained under the concerned gazes, “I went to persuade someone and urged her to report to the police.”

“???”

Everyone was baffled by Jiang Chenyi’s words, and the director’s mind momentarily froze, causing him to forget what he had originally wanted to say.

The young man looked at them curiously: “You’re here… waiting for me?”

Qi Yun’s lips twitched; she felt Jiang Chenyi was a bit too carefree… after such a significant incident, he could still remain this calm!

The director finally remembered what he wanted to say as he leaned against his forehead in frustration: “Why should you discuss such a major incident in front of the camera?”

Jiang Chenyi blinked and retorted, “Wasn’t it Yu Min who started the trouble in the game?”

He hadn’t planned to act at that moment, but who could have known that person couldn’t hold back?

The director was momentarily at a loss for words.

In fact, as Jiang Chenyi had said, it was indeed Yu Min who had initiated the trouble, and he had continued even after knowing Luo Qiuming was angry, so it was entirely his own fault that things escalated to this point.

“Well, you… sigh!” The director felt a headache coming on.

Jiang Chenyi shrugged helplessly: “I originally planned to wait until the last day of recording to take action, but… I didn’t expect his patience to be so poor.”

Alright, enough said; the director was about to be driven mad by him…

Luo Qiuming quickly supported the swaying director while frantically signaling Jiang Chenyi with his eyes.

Jiang Chenyi spread his hands; he thought that someone who had made a name for themselves in the entertainment industry would have some sense, but it turned out…

He didn’t realize that what truly pushed Yu Min to his breaking point was Jiang Chenyi himself, who posed a threat to him.

He feared that Jiang Chenyi would enter this circle, and because the two of them exhibited a similar aura in front of outsiders.

But Yu Min knew very well that he was the complete opposite of the persona he projected to the public; if he ever broke character, he would undoubtedly lose a significant number of fans.

Moreover, Jiang Chenyi’s looks far surpassed his; if the young man truly entered the entertainment industry, where would he find his own chance to shine?

If this were said aloud, others might think he was overreacting, but Yu Min’s intuition told him it would be exactly like that.

And he had a strong trust in his instincts.

Thus, he chose to act against Jiang Chenyi first; as long as he could prevent this person from entering the entertainment industry, wouldn’t he be safe?

It must be said that Yu Min’s thinking was quite good.

However, when it came to Jiang Chenyi, his tactics were utterly useless because the other party had no interest in the entertainment industry whatsoever.

After realizing he couldn’t persuade Jiang Chenyi, the director could only go back and think of a way to resolve this incident.

Meanwhile, Jiang Chenyi was still surrounded by a group of people, all curious about whether what he had said earlier was true or not.

“What are you talking about?”

He had said so many things; who knew which one they wanted to ask about.

Qi Yun was a bit impatient, so she quickly asked, “It’s about you saying Yu Min watched his own mother get beaten! He knows, right?”

Jiang Chenyi didn’t hide anything and nodded decisively: “Yeah, he witnessed it with his own eyes, which is why I asked him what he was thinking at that time.”

Qi Yun pressed on: “So… does that mean Yu Min’s mother ran away because she couldn’t endure domestic violence?”

After hearing Jiang Chenyi and Yu Min’s confrontation, that was their first thought.

Not just them; probably most of the viewers who had watched the live stream thought the same.

However, this assumption, which they believed had an eighty percent chance of being true, was dismissed by Jiang Chenyi: “It can’t be that simple.”

Wh… what?

While the director was silently pondering solutions, he drifted back, but Jiang Chenyi didn’t continue speaking.

“Just wait; someone will come looking for Yu Min soon. Oh, by the way, Yu Min should return here, right?”

If he didn’t come back, he would need to inquire about the other party’s whereabouts.

Qi Yun and her friends couldn’t stand Jiang Chenyi’s half-finished statements.

“Brother Jiang! Yi Ge! Please, what’s so complicated about it! Just tell us! We promise we won’t spill!”

He Suisui and her brother, along with Luo Qiuming and the director, all nodded vigorously, but Jiang Chenyi, this ruthless man, didn’t reveal a single word.

Ignoring the group’s resentful gazes, Jiang Chenyi first went to his room to sleep.

On the fourth day of recording the program, which was also the penultimate day of this episode, Jiang Chenyi woke up early again.

However, there was no recording this morning because Yu Min was still in the hospital and hadn’t returned.

By noon, Yu Min’s sister was the first to return.

She rushed to Jiang Chenyi’s spot with her dim eyes shining with renewed light.

“I… I did it!”

She panted and her body trembled slightly with excitement, but those present could hear the joy, relief, and deep sadness in her voice.

They didn’t understand how one person could express two completely different emotions in their eyes, but Qi Yun and He Suisui felt a bittersweet pang looking into their sister’s eyes.

Perhaps due to their sensitivity as actors, they sensed a long-awaited freedom in the sister.

Because she was finally free, she felt joy.

But also because she had been imprisoned for twenty years, there was an indelible sadness.

Jiang Chenyi waved at the sister, who obediently squatted down and allowed the young man’s hand to rest on her head.

“Once this case is completely resolved, come find me. After that, you’ll be free. If you want to go to school, go to school; if you want to date, date; if you want to go anywhere, you can, just be sure to stay safe.”

“Even, Yu Xiaohua, you can change your name. Didn’t your mother often mention wanting to name you Zhao?”

“There’s a line in the Book of Songs, ‘Zhuo bi yunhan, Zhao hui yu tian.’ Zhao, that’s a good character.”

Yu Xiaohua was already in tears.

She didn’t understand how Jiang Chenyi knew what her mother had said before, but it was indeed something her mother had said.

“I… I also want to change my surname, boohoo!”

That surname belonged to her father, and she didn’t want it, nor did she want to keep it!

Jiang Chenyi nodded in agreement while patting her head: “Sure, then change it. When the time comes, just go to the police station here to change it. Given the evidence you’ve provided, they won’t make it difficult for you.”

The sister cried like a little weeping willow, and Jiang Chenyi called Qi Yun over to ask her to take the sister to wash her face first.

After the sister left, the remaining few stared at Jiang Chenyi with wide, bell-like eyes and eagerly awaiting an explanation.

However, he only said, “You’ll know soon enough.”

He Suisui stomped her foot in frustration: “I hate riddlers!”

As soon as this was said, everyone nodded in agreement.

Jiang Chenyi dismissed them all and quietly approached the director before whispering something in his ear.

The others watched the director with burning eyes and observing his expression.

Then they saw the director’s face change from =_= to O_O, then to O皿O, and finally (??へ??╬)

They were so curious about what they were discussing!

After discussing with the director, Jiang Chenyi patiently awaited the final moment.

Around three in the afternoon, a car arrived outside—Yu Min was back.

At the same time, the director had someone quietly turn on the camera and instruct the videographer to ensure that all the footage was recorded, as a precaution against Yu Min’s studio later buying online trolls to blacken the production team!

When Yu Min returned, his expression was still gloomy, especially upon seeing Jiang Chenyi, with his intense hatred completely unmasked.

He had been severely reprimanded by his manager, yet he remained defiant.

Thus, he ignored the advice given by his manager and insisted on returning to continue filming.

Little did he know, his return was truly a dead end.

When he came back, no one paid him any attention; even the good-natured He Suihua remained silent.

This atmosphere of total exclusion made his already dark expression even worse.

Yu Min wanted to find his sister but saw her hiding behind Qi Yun, who was sitting next to Luo Qiuming with her friends.

When did they become so close?

“Yu Xiaohua!” He had lost the gentle demeanor he displayed on camera while calling his sister’s full name in a rough voice: “Come here!”

The sister flinched; Yu Min’s tone was just like their father’s.

When they used that tone to call her, it meant they were angry and needed someone to vent their frustrations on.

And she was the tool for venting in the family.

Just thinking about the various insults, beatings, confinement, and even starvation she had endured in the past made her body tremble instinctively.

Qi Yun sensed her fear; she and her friends tightly hugged the sister and shot a fierce glare at Yu Min.

Yu Min sneered before grinning as he said, “You’re my sister… you better think this through!”

The sister bit her lip as tears welling in her eyes.

However, she felt a newfound courage and, despite Yu Min’s increasingly fierce tone, refused to comply.

Yu Min was furious; he couldn’t understand what kind of spell Qi Yun had cast on his sister.

How could she be so disobedient after he had laid in the hospital for half a day?

Since she wouldn’t listen, he decided to take matters into his own hands and tried to pull his sister over.

But just as he was about to act, Luo Qiuming stood up to block Qi Yun and the others.

Then, a hand reached from behind Yu Min that tightly gripped his shoulder: “What do you think you’re doing?”

Yu Min recognized the voice behind him as Jiang Chenyi’s, which only fueled his anger further.

“None of your damn business! Get lost! This is my family’s matter!”

Not just Jiang Chenyi, but no one else had the right to question his family matters!

But Jiang Chenyi’s hand felt as if it were glued to his shoulder because no matter how much Yu Min struggled, he couldn’t break free.

Soon, everyone heard the sound of police sirens approaching.

The sound grew closer and headed straight for their direction.

When they saw two police cars stop in front of the cabin, everyone jolted awake while looking at the director.

To their surprise, the director showed no signs of shock or distress.

It was as if he had known all along that the police would come.

Seeing his demeanor, they immediately recalled the scene of Jiang Chenyi whispering to the director.

Could it be that what they had discussed in secret was this matter?

In truth, when the police appeared, the director felt quite helpless.

But he also understood that he absolutely couldn’t suppress this incident because even if he disagreed and if Jiang Chenyi did nothing… Yu Min would definitely be taken away by the police afterward, and at that point, the losses for his program would be even greater.

Now… he could still call someone to save the situation.

Thinking of this, he secretly gave a signal to the videographer, who stopped recording and instead turned on the live broadcast camera.

After being shut down for most of the day, fans of various celebrities were anxiously clamoring for the variety show's live broadcast to resume.

Thus, when the live broadcast room opened, countless viewers instantly flooded in and nearly crashed the stream.

Then, they were shocked by the scene before their eyes.

Why were there police officers present?

Seeing the police officers stepping out of the police car, Jiang Chenyi was momentarily stunned before he turned his face away and chuckled.

Well, well, what a surprise—it’s an acquaintance again!

Team Leader Yao, along with his subordinates, walked straight up to Yu Min.

After presenting his credentials, he declared with an air of authority in front of everyone that Yu Min was to be taken in for investigation.

"Investigation? What investigation?"

Team Leader Yao gave a forced smile, and the words he spoke next sent chills down Yu Min's spine.

"Of course, it’s about the years-long dealings between your village and the human trafficking organization. Yu Min, don’t tell me you knew nothing about this."

Team Leader Yao’s statement immediately caused an uproar.

For a moment, both the people present and the viewers watching the live broadcast doubted whether they were hallucinating.

Human trafficking? Dealings? How could a promising star actor be involved in such matters?

For the audience, this was undoubtedly a shocking revelation!

The worst off were Yu Min’s fans.

Since yesterday, they had been bombarded with doubts—external skepticism about Yu Min, internal scrutiny of past incidents, and their own growing suspicions.

Now, upon hearing the police officer’s words, many of them felt as if the sky was falling.

Yu Min also felt as if the sky was falling.

He had never imagined that the secrets of his family would one day be exposed.

Weren’t the people in the village supposed to be united?

How could they have been investigated by the police?

Jiang Chenyi let go and pushed Yu Min toward the subordinate behind Team Leader Yao.

But Yu Min didn’t want to accept his fate: "No, what does that have to do with me? I didn’t do those things! Why are you arresting me!"

The more he spoke, the more convinced he became of his own reasoning.

Team Leader Yao gave him a cold glance but didn’t continue the conversation, and simply gestured for someone to stuff him into the police car.

Whether there was a problem or not wasn’t up to him to decide—it was up to the evidence.

After witnessing Yu Min being taken away, the remaining people didn’t dare to approach Team Leader Yao.

But what shocked them was that the previously stern and authoritative officer softened his gaze the moment he saw Jiang Chenyi while looking at him as if he were his own junior.

No, it was even more affectionate than that.

"Ahem, Little Jiang, when do you have time to come by our police station? Director Zhou really misses you."

Jiang Chenyi’s eyes were filled with helplessness.

Who invites someone to a police station like that!

But Team Leader Yao remained all smiles.

Jiang Chenyi had initially wanted to refuse, but when he thought about the massive human trafficking organization, he hesitated.

Seeing that he didn’t immediately reject the offer, a glimmer of delight flashed in Team Leader Yao’s eyes.

"That organization…" he whispered, then glanced at the police car where Yu Min was being held before giving Jiang Chenyi a bit of information: "They’re involved in too many areas. Although we can collaborate across districts, the scope is too vast that makes the search extremely difficult."

That’s right, the information Director Zhou brought back did include their approximate locations.

However, by the time they went to make the arrests, those people had already left.

"Someone tipped them off, so…" As Team Leader Yao spoke of this, his face was a mix of anger and sorrow.

He was desperate to uncover that traitor!

Because of the tip-off, their operation had almost been a complete failure—they hadn’t caught a single person.

The only gain was the documents the group had left behind in their haste to escape.

Through that data, they managed to find information about the abducted victims—but most of that data could be found on A4 paper!

"I heard from the police station in Ancheng that they have a Tracking Plate…" When he mentioned the last three words, Team Leader Yao’s eyes lit up with excitement as he looked expectantly at Jiang Chenyi.

Jiang Chenyi took a step back.

Team Leader Yao’s gaze was like a starving weasel spotting a chicken, and it made him a little nervous.

"Let me finish up here first…" Jiang Chenyi took a few more steps back.

However, upon hearing his agreement, Team Leader Yao’s enthusiasm surged, and he rushed over to give Jiang Chenyi a tight hug: "You’re such a good-hearted comrade!"

Jiang Chenyi felt utterly defeated.

This officer’s overexcitement resulted in him not being able to control his strength…

Just as he was about to struggle, a force suddenly appeared between the two of them that forcefully separated them.

Team Leader Yao couldn’t see anything, but Jiang Chenyi saw it clearly.

The Spirit of the Bell had appeared between them and used its body to separate him from Team Leader Yao.

On the other side, Team Leader Yao didn't dwell on it too much.

After confirming the good news, he waved goodbye to Jiang Chenyi.

After all the police cars had left, the Director, with a serious expression, announced to the live broadcast camera that this episode of the variety show would be re-shot with new participants, and the program would air again in a week.

After turning off the camera, the Director informed everyone of the new arrangements.

However, after finishing, his gaze fell on Jiang Chenyi: "Will you continue to participate?"

To be honest, Jiang Chenyi, a layperson, had recently brought more traffic than Luo Qiuming, the movie star.

If possible, the Director didn't want to replace him.

But... from Team Leader Yao's attitude, it was clear that this person had significant capabilities that even alarming the police. The Director didn't dare to make a decision lightly.

Jiang Chenyi was actually indifferent, but he hoped the new guest would be a well-behaved person.

He needed to help He Suisui find her biological parents and visit the police station in Chashan City to see what was going on.

And then, there was that Spirit!

Jiang Chenyi held his forehead and sighed deeply.

Indeed, his Dad's warning had been correct—he had said to enjoy life now because once he took over the supermarket, he would be busy for a long time!

"I... will continue. After all, I've already taken the money, so it's better to see it through. But the person you find should be reliable." Jiang Chenyi weakly reminded.

This left the Director in a dilemma.

When he had invited Yu Min before, he had also thought he was reliable. As a Director, he didn't want the show to be canceled because of a guest's issues!

Thinking of this, the Director felt like he was going bald.

With the show temporarily paused, the guests decided to go home first, while He Suisui and her brother, He Suihua followed Jiang Chenyi to the supermarket.

Luo Qiuming originally wanted to go back with Jiang Chenyi, but the young man refused.

"I know you're worried about me, but I'm an adult now and can take care of myself. You should go back and accompany Sister Miaomiao."

Luo Qiuming was mercilessly abandoned by Jiang Chenyi.

A few hours later, the three of them arrived at the entrance of the supermarket.

Upon seeing the slightly old and small supermarket, He Suisui's first thought was to get Jiang Chenyi a bigger one!

But after they entered, the siblings realized that this supermarket was not the normal kind they had imagined.

Jiang Chenyi still led them to the courtyard and once again listened to He Suisui's deepest thoughts.

After he closed his eyes, the siblings exchanged glances and obediently waited for Jiang Chenyi's arrangements.

He Suisui's thoughts were quite chaotic.

She wanted many things besides finding her biological parents, there was also the issue of her career.

These two thoughts were almost equally strong.

Jiang Chenyi rubbed his temples.

Currently, He Suisui's career was doing quite well and without too many difficulties, so he didn't plan to help with her career.

He took out the Golden Abacus and calculated He Suisui's Merit.

Initially, the siblings were amazed by the peculiarity of the Golden Abacus, but then their focus shifted to the Merit on He Suisui.

To be precise, they were surprised by the accumulated virtue left by her ancestors.

Upon hearing the final number, He Suisui's mouth hung open in astonishment.

"So..."

She felt a bit dizzy while suspecting that Jiang Chenyi had noticed her earlier due to his abundant accumulated virtue.

"That's right. I told Qiuming Ge that a family with such rich accumulated virtue definitely wouldn't be ordinary. But Qiuming Ge said your family background wasn't great, so I concluded there was something off about you."

So that's how it was...

The He siblings belatedly realized that they, too, were fish being lured in Jiang Chenyi's plan.

However, they had no objections and only felt fortunate.

"Then, He Suisui, come with me."

Jiang Chenyi led her alone to the hidden door and left He Suihua waiting in the courtyard.

He Suihua actually wanted to follow, but his younger sister refused.

Fortunately, he didn't have to wait long.

When his sister returned, she looked dazed, as if she had experienced something unimaginable.

Seeing the tension in He Suihua's eyes, Jiang Chenyi took a step back. "Alright, Miss He Suisui has already obtained what she wanted. Next, you two should find a hotel in Huacheng to rest."

What came out from behind the hidden door this time wasn't a compass or a Tracking Plate, but a piece of candy.

By eating this candy, He Suisui would be able to obtain the information she desired in her dreams.

This information wasn't just about the whereabouts of her biological parents and He Suihua's younger sister, but also the truth about how they had been switched.

After seeing them off, Jiang Chenyi knocked on the supermarket.

"Did you deliberately make this so expensive for her?"

The thoughts he heard didn't include the truth about the switch.

If it was just about finding someone, the item He Suisui received would have cost around one or two thousand Merit Points, similar to the Tracking Plate, and definitely not just for one-time use.

But this transaction cost He Suisui a whopping ten thousand Merit Points!

Although ten thousand wasn't much for He Suisui, it really wasn't necessary.

The supermarket grumbled for a while before explaining: [Don't worry, this is definitely what she needs. I just solved everything in one go.]

This ten-thousand Merit Point candy not only did what Jiang Chenyi said but also had another crucial function.

Jiang Chenyi was immediately curious: "What function? I didn't know about this!"

That couldn't be. He had memorized all the detailed explanations of the goods here.

The supermarket remained silent, and Jiang Chenyi had no choice but to ask He Suisui about it later.

Meanwhile, the He siblings followed Jiang Chenyi's advice and found a hotel.

He Suisui laid out what she had obtained on the table.

"He said that by eating this candy, I would know all the information I wanted."

He Suisui never expected that in the vast sea of stars, she would receive a piece of candy!

She found it unbelievable and for a moment suspected that Jiang Chenyi was just playing a prank on her.

But in reality, she hadn't given up anything. The so-called Merit was something she couldn't see or touch, and she wouldn't even know how to use it herself.

He Suihua stared intently at the candy, but after a long time, he couldn't figure anything out.

"We can only try it."

He Suisui had her brother keep an eye on her, then bit into the candy and swallowed it.

Soon, an overwhelming sense of drowsiness swept over her mind, and He Suisui fell into a deep sleep within seconds of lying down on the bed.

In her dream, He Suisui felt her Spirit detach from her body.

After passing through a tunnel that resembled a starry sky, she arrived at a place.

It was a hospital, and the name of the hospital made her heart tremble.

Because this was the hospital where she was born.

He Suisui stood in front of the hospital's main entrance and stared blankly at the large characters before her.

After what felt like an eternity, she finally stepped into the hospital.

In a real hospital, there are many departments, but in front of He Suisui, there was only one path she could take.

As she walked faster and closer to her destination, He Suisui's heart grew increasingly tense.

When she reached the fifth floor, she saw two nurses each carrying a baby out of the delivery room and showing the babies to the family members outside.

She saw her Dad and grandmother joyfully looking at one baby, while outside another delivery room, there was no one waiting.

This made He Suisui's heart sink abruptly.

By now, she was well aware that what she was seeing was likely the scene of her own birth and that of another girl—the one being cherished by her Dad and grandmother was their real daughter, while the one with no one waiting was herself.

She didn’t know why there were no family members here.

Was it… that they didn’t care about her biological mother? Or was it that they didn’t welcome the birth of a daughter?

He Suisui felt her eyes grow hot and sore, and suddenly, she felt a pang of guilt.

If it really was one of these two situations, how much neglect must the real daughter have endured in her own family!

Seeing the nurses carry the babies away, she quickly followed them to the newborn nursery.

She watched as the nurses placed wristbands on the babies' feet and hands. In theory, this should prevent any mix-ups.

He Suisui stayed there until nightfall, when she saw a figure appear in the hallway.

It was a nurse, but…

He Suisui's gaze fell on the woman's head and chest—she wasn’t wearing a nurse’s cap, nor did she have an ID badge.

This woman looked more like a fake nurse.

She quietly slipped into the newborn nursery before checking each baby's wristband, and then stopped in front of her.

He Suisui noticed the woman's eyes gradually turning fierce.

This didn’t look like someone who wanted to swap babies—it looked more like she wanted to kill the baby!

Her heart raced, and she immediately rushed to the door to try to stop the woman.

But her hand passed through the door handle, and her entire body was blocked outside.

The newborn nursery seemed to be rejecting her entry.

By now, the woman had opened the incubator and was reaching out with her sinister claws toward the fragile newborn.

Bang!

"Let me go!"

In her desperation, He Suisui slammed her hands heavily against the glass outside that created a loud noise.

The sound seemed to startle the woman and cause her to immediately retract her hands.

But when she realized there was no one around, she reached out again.

"Let me go! What are you trying to do to me!" He Suisui grew more and more horrified.

She was now certain that this person really wanted to kill her!

Bang! Bang! Bang!

One after another, loud noises kept ringing in the woman's ears, but no matter how hard she looked, she couldn't see anything unusual outside.

Her hands gripped the baby's neck tightly, and if she just applied a little more force…

Perhaps it was some kind of telepathy, but He Suisui also felt as if her own neck was being tightly squeezed by a pair of hands.

She was gradually losing her breath.

He Suisui glared at the woman inside with bloodshot eyes while still pounding on the glass with increasing force.

Finally, a loud knocking sound echoed through the hallway.

"Who's there!" A nurse noticed the commotion and hurried over with quick footsteps.

This startled the woman, who kept wondering where the loud noise was coming from!

Time was running out, and she applied more force with her hands.

Just as the baby was on the verge of suffocation, the nurse finally arrived: "What are you doing! Let go!"

Seeing someone trying to strangle a baby, the on-duty nurse was nearly scared out of her wits.

She quickly grabbed the woman's arm and tried to pull her away from the baby by force.

But the woman refused to give up, and the two struggled that eventually ended up in a scuffle.

At that moment, the lights in the room went out, and the hallway darkened as well—it seemed the hospital had lost power.

The woman knew this was her accomplice buying her time, but the little nurse was surprisingly stubborn.

When she couldn't overpower the woman with strength, she resorted to biting!

She bit down hard on the woman's wrist, causing her to let out a painful scream.

The commotion between them grew louder, and hearing footsteps approaching from nearby, the woman had no choice but to abandon her plan and flee.

However, in the dim environment, she accidentally knocked over several incubators holding babies.

The babies began to cry in the darkness with their wails echoing through the room.

The noise gave the woman a headache, and with the nurse still clinging to her, she decided to grab a baby as a hostage.

But the nurse was relentless.

Seeing the woman still refusing to stop, she lunged at her before grabbing her hair and yanking it hard.

"Ahhh! Let go of me!" the woman screamed in agony while flailing her arms wildly.

Only He Suisui, standing outside, could see clearly that the woman had torn off the wristbands of herself and two other babies.

Finally, the woman, in a fit of rage, threw the nurse to the ground and hastily fled the hospital.

By the time other nurses arrived, the on-duty nurse had passed out.

When the lights came back on, they found a pool of blood on the back of her head.

As for the three babies whose wristbands had been torn off, the only boy was the easiest to identify. For the two girls, the nurses made new wristbands based on the fragments left in the incubators.

It seemed like everything had returned to normal.

But He Suisui knew that one of the fragments had accidentally fallen into another newborn's incubator when it was torn off.

So, the nurses had mistaken the identities of the two girls.

"So that's how it was..." He Suisui found it somewhat absurd.

At first, she had blamed the on-duty nurse for not keeping a close eye on things, but when she thought about how the nurse had risked her life to protect the babies until her head covered in blood, she felt a pang of pity for her.

The hospital was at fault for not being vigilant enough; otherwise, that woman wouldn't have been able to sneak in.

But... who could have imagined that someone would try to infiltrate the newborn nursery to harm a child!

Moreover, it was evident that the woman's actions were premeditated.

After uncovering the truth about the switch, He Suisui turned around and noticed the scene around her distorting rapidly.

In the blink of an eye, she saw an elegant middle-aged couple anxiously pacing around the hospital while occasionally glancing at the person lying in the hospital room.

He Suisui seemed to sense something.

She approached the room and saw a girl lying weakly on the bed inside.

Her appearance was almost identical to that of her parents before they passed away!

Was she ill?

He Suisui's attention was entirely focused on the girl's emaciated face.

She stared at her for a long time before suddenly turning and leaving the place.

After waking up, He Suisui didn't get up immediately.

She opened her eyes with tears slowly streaming down the corners of her eyes and her heart aching faintly.

"What's wrong? What did you see?" Her brother's voice rang in her ears. He Suisui sniffled and her voice trembling with tears, "Brother, she's sick."

He Suihua didn't react immediately until He Suisui spoke again: "Younger sister, your younger sister is sick. Her condition resembles that of our parents... back then."

After saying this, she couldn't hold back her tears any longer.

She turned to the side to hug her pillow, and cried bitterly.

He Suihua was in a state of shock and confusion. When he finally snapped out of it, he stood up abruptly: "Where is she? I need to see her!"

He Suisui quickly wiped away her tears and said through sobs, "Let's go! We'll go together!"

The shadow of their parents' death loomed heavily over the siblings.

He Suihua's hands were trembling, and the image of their parents being covered with white sheets kept flashing through his mind.

He really didn't want... didn't want to lose another family member!

When He Suisui left the dream, she made sure to note the ward number and the hospital. After locating the hospital, they caught the earliest available flight.

……..

Four hours later, they arrived in the capital.

That hospital was one of the best in the capital, where many patients with complex or rare diseases sought treatment.

Or terminal illnesses.

He Suisui hadn't clearly seen what was written on the girl's medical record, but on the way, she had already calculated all her current assets.

She had made a silent decision in her heart.

If the other party couldn't afford the medical treatment, she would definitely not stand by.

Whether it was for her brother or for the wishes of their parents before they passed away, she would do her best to help that poor girl.

As for the matter of them being switched at birth, it was insignificant in the face of life!
