Chapter 55: Everyone in the World is My Spare Tire 10

The Green Tea is Always Targeting The Wrong Person (GREENTEA)

After escorting Jiang Quan back to his room, Lan Yi finally had time to unwrap the gift.

He leaned casually against the table with his long legs forming straight lines and a charming smile gracing his handsome face.

Carefully, he took out a piece of paper from his wallet with his eyes crinkling with a smile as he opened it and his deep peach blossom eyes filled with anticipation.

However, upon reading the contents of the note, his tender expression instantly changed and tinged with a spark of irritation.

Lan Yi clenched his fist and crumpled the note in his palm. He grit his teeth as he paced back and forth as he felt a surge of anger in his chest.

He wished he could rush back, grab that person, and pin them against the wall to demand an explanation.

But this anger quickly subsided, like embers losing their glow and turning from a fiery red to a dull gray.

He sighed and rubbed his temples, then carefully unfolded the crumpled note before smoothing it out with his fingertips with his eyes softening as they traced the handwriting.

The note read: "Jiang Quan loves spicy food, especially the Spicy Shrimp Sticks from the supermarket in the eastern part of the research institute. Remember to buy them for him."

Lan Yi was well aware of the rumors about him and Jiang Quan, but he had never bothered to clarify anything because he simply didn’t care.

But now…

He gently ground his back teeth before bringing the note to his nose to inhale its scent.

Sure enough, besides the smell of ink, there was a faint, familiar fragrance that made him take a deep breath while reminiscing about the scent of that person.

Rumors were strictly prohibited in the lab, and it was time to address this issue.

..........

Yue Chu quietly gazed at the porcelain cup in his hand as he sensed that something was off.

He had read the world’s setting—Lan Yi had always harbored a secret love for Jiang Quan, and was even willing to sacrifice his life to protect him. This was far from a shallow emotion. And Mu You, driven by Lan Yi’s feelings for Jiang Quan, had repeatedly targeted Jiang Quan. It was impossible to say that Mu You didn’t have feelings for Lan Yi.

But the attitudes of these two were just too strange.

Yue Chu knew his own charm, but this time he hadn’t deliberately played any tricks. Moreover, he wasn’t some haloed angel—how could he have so easily won the affection of both of them?

He took a sip of the steaming coffee that Mu You had brewed for him. Even though he was as busy as a dog, Mu You had still thoughtfully made him coffee that perfectly sweetened to his liking. It was incredibly considerate.

But it was all too strange…

Both Lan Yi and Mu You were acting too strangely.

"Have you been waiting long?"

Mu You emerged from the lab and saw Yue Chu sitting there waiting for him and feeling an overwhelming softness flood his heart that dispels all the darkness.

Yue Chu sat on the black chair with his smile like a warm breeze carrying the fragrance of blooming flowers under the sun, making Mu You unable to resist smiling as well.

The white lab coat suited someone as pure and clean as him. The soft silver light shone down and enveloping him, yet it couldn’t compare to his radiance.

Yue Chu shook his head while smiling as he walked over and patted Mu You’s shoulder. "You’ve worked hard. Come on, I’ll walk you back."

Mu You had worked too late today, and the research institute wasn’t a safe place. Despite his ruthless and cunning nature, Mu You’s actual combat skills were quite low.

Yue Chu wasn’t comfortable letting him go back alone, and since he had nothing else to do, he decided to wait for him.

Mu You moved his lips, but no polite words came out. He simply reached for the cup on the table, washed it clean in the sink, and placed it alone in a sterilizer. Then, obediently follow behind Yue Chu and begin this rare moment of walking side by side.

His face was hidden in the shadow cast by the backlight with only his sparkling eyes revealing the joy within.

Sweet, really sweet.

Mu You felt his heart was even sweeter than the last time he ate candy.

He couldn't help but stick out his tongue to lick the inside of his mouth, as if wanting to swallow all the sweetness and leaving none behind.

The long corridor flickered on and off, as the shadows of the two people cast on the snow-white wall and gently swayed.

It was quiet all around, no sound at all, as if they had walked into a tomb and were only able to hear their own breathing.

Gurgle...

Yue Chu's ears twitched slightly before he stopped and looked towards the dark corner with his brows slightly furrowed that showed a bit of seriousness.

Mu You looked at him in confusion and  just when he was about to speak, Yue Chu pressed a finger to his lips.

He was suddenly stunned and felt as if that finger was electrified that made him tingly and numb, completely at its mercy.

Rustle, rustle...

The corner was not lit, with only the white light from above slanting over that barely illuminated the path ahead while the rest was thick darkness.

In that mass of darkness, something seemed to be lurking while coldly staring at anyone who might pass by, coveting their flesh and blood.

Yue Chu covered Mu You's mouth then gently pushed him back, and hid in an empty laboratory nearby.

He pressed close to Mu You with his eyes no longer soft, but alert and cautious as he carefully observed the outside through the glass.

Mu You felt as if he couldn't breathe as the close distance allowed him to clearly see Yue Chu's flawless white skin and his mesmerizing features.

All his senses were automatically heightened as he greedily capture the faint, snow-like fragrance and the slight warmth of his body.

So focused that he didn't even blink while staring at Yue Chu as if he could never get enough.

After confirming once more, Yue Chu's expression also turned grim.

The sounds outside were not just from one source.

If this continued, the entire research institute would become a slaughterhouse for the Experimental Subjects.

What was going on?

Up until now, not even an alarm had sounded.

The situation was even worse than the first time.

He was fine, but Mu You was just a researcher with no strength to fight and likely to be killed if he went out.

Without understanding the source of the world's destruction, Yue Chu didn't want any important figures to be harmed, lest the situation spiral into the unpredictable.

He looked around the laboratory that were filled with complex instruments, but there was almost no place to hide.

Yue Chu wasn't sure how many Experimental Subjects had escaped. If he left and Mu You encountered them, he probably wouldn't last a minute.

He pulled Mu You into the storage room and whispered, "Stay here, and no matter what you hear or see, don't come out until I come back for you, okay?"

Mu You didn't understand what was happening, but he sensed the danger from Yue Chu's serious tone. He grabbed Yue Chu's hand, "No, stay with me. If there's danger, it should be the Cleansing Squad's job to handle it."

But there was no time.

Yue Chu could already clearly hear the spine-chilling chewing sounds in the corridor.

These monsters seemed to have evolved again as they are now capable of hiding and ambushing.

He smiled softly while gently prying Mu You's hand away, and said in a tender voice, "Be good, I'll be fine. Trust me."

Mu You's heart pounded as if pressed by a jack and almost ready to burst.

He didn't know what dangers lay outside, but Yue Chu's attitude was clear: he wanted Mu You to stay safely hidden while he took the risk.

Mu You slightly lowered his eyes with his long lashes fluttering uneasily and exuding a pitiful charm.

His fists clenched tightly by his sides as a dark thought arose in his heart: he didn't want Yue Chu to go. The lives of others had nothing to do with them; let them die.

Yue Chu didn't notice the coldness in Mu You's eyes.

Seeing him obediently lower his head, Yue Chu gently ruffled his hair and turned to leave.

He drew the small knife kept in the lab.

The silver blade twirled in his hand like a blooming moonflower, dazzling and radiant.

Mu You quietly watched him leave with his clear black eyes reflecting a faint red light.

Yue Chu's footsteps were light and his white figure ghost-like in the darkness.

The overhead lights flickered slightly and emitting a crackling sound. Not far away, there was a pool of blood, dark red mixed with chunks of pale flesh that were emitting a sweet, metallic stench.

Gulp.

The Experimental Subject that was gnawing on a corpse nearby, keenly caught Yue Chu's movement.

It let out a low growl from its throat and warily looked up at Yue Chu.

Yue Chu tightened his grip on the silver knife.

Had their hearing evolved to this extent?

His eyes were frosty as he stared intently at the Experimental Subject while poised like a leopard that was ready to strike.

The Experimental Subject's eyes bulged, like pus-filled sacs on its head. Its mouth split open to its ears and revealed a row of sharp teeth that were still smeared with fresh flesh and blood.

The bones in its back split open, and two long bone spikes extended from within, with their tips dripping with bright red blood.

The monster suddenly stood up with its bone spikes swinging twice that hit the wall with a sharp crack.

Yue Chu's blade flashed as he prepared to lunge forward, but then the sacs on the Experimental Subject's head twitched, and it extended long, sharp claws to wipe its face.

What the hell?

Yue Chu paused abruptly and frowned as he kept his eyes locked on the Experimental Subject while not letting his guard down.

The Experimental Subject seemed to notice his gaze as it stood still for a moment, then covered its face and ran away.

In its haste, it didn't watch where it was going and collided with another, slightly smaller Experimental Subject that had just arrived.

Yue Chu was completely baffled and did not understand what had just happened. However, seeing the female Experimental Subject struggling to get up with her numerous tentacles, he stepped forward and intended to deal with her first.

But as soon as the female Experimental Subject saw him, she let out a piercing sonic scream that caused Yue Chu's eardrums to bulge and nearly bleed.

His expression turned grave.

These Experimental Subjects were far more dangerous than the zombies in the world's setting.

If the research institute fell, it would be a truly distressing event.

Just as he was about to execute the Experimental Subject, it suddenly stopped screaming using the dozens of tentacles to cover its withered mouth. Its pitch-black eyes blinked strangely, and in the blink of an eye, it vanished without a trace.

Yue Chu paused before heightening his senses in alert and trying to locate where it had hidden. However, the surroundings were eerily quiet—the Experimental Subject had already fled.

He silently lowered his arm and glanced behind him.

Indeed, there was no one there. But why didn’t these Experimental Subjects attack? Instead, they acted as if they had seen a ghost.

Yue Chu felt as though he had been plunged into a fog and completely unaware of what awaited him in his surroundings.

He walked over to the alarm and pressed the red alert button.

The piercing sound echoed through the quiet research institute and signalled the beginning of a sleepless night.
