The Green Tea is Always Targeting The Wrong Person (GREENTEA)
Lan Yi hurried over and, seeing that Yue Chu was unharmed, let out a slight sigh of relief. However, upon noticing Mu You clinging to Yue Chu's arm and practically plastering himself against him, Lan Yi couldn't help but frown as his previously relaxed expression darkened once more.
Still, he asked softly, "Are you alright?"
Yue Chu shook his head, concealing the strange behavior of the two experimental subjects earlier, and only informed Lan Yi of the traces he had observed.
His expression was calm as water: "There's more than one escaped experimental subject, and they've all skillfully avoided the alarms. If this continues, it could endanger the entire research institute."
Lan Yi nodded with his resolute demeanor exuding a reassuring steadiness. He adjusted the brim of his hat as a sharp glint flashing in his eyes.
"Don't worry, I'll handle them all thoroughly."
After speaking, he glanced at Yue Chu, and an unspoken understanding passed between them.
This scene was painfully glaring to Mu You, who instinctively tightened his grip on Yue Chu's sleeve and a shadow of jealousy flickering in his eyes.
Yue Chu chuckled lightly, "Then we'll trouble Captain Lan. With you here, we feel much more at ease."
Lan Yi smiled brightly as he unapologetically accepted the praise.
"You should go back to your room and rest. It's not safe here yet."
Yue Chu didn't refuse.
There was nothing more for him to do here anyway, and it wasn't appropriate for him to interfere with the follow-up matters. It was best to leave them to Lan Yi.
As Yue Chu prepared to leave, Mu You naturally followed, like a little tail attached to Yue Chu. However, this tail was neither obedient nor well-behaved, and instead exuded a sinister possessiveness, like a greedy dragon fiercely guarding its treasure and unwilling to let anyone else catch a glimpse.
Lan Yi reached out and grabbed Mu You's arm to pull him away. His smile was bright but devoid of any warmth as he said, "Mu You, there's no need for you to follow. You're not going in the same direction. I'll have someone take you back later."
Yue Chu chuckled but pretended not to notice the undercurrents between them, and even deliberately glanced at Mu You with the smile on his lips carrying a particularly meaningful undertone.
"Alright, then we'll trouble Captain Lan."
Mu You widened his eyes and wanted to refuse but as Yue Chu turned away, Lan Yi covered his mouth with a gloved hand. The leather glove carried a faint, nauseating scent and mixed with its original odor that made Mu You want to gag.
He furrowed his brows while glaring up at Lan Yi with his large, clear eyes now devoid of any innocence.
Only after Yue Chu had walked away did Lan Yi's smile fade.
He withdrew his arm and distanced himself from Mu You.
He looked at the glove with disgust before forcefully pulling it off and tossing it into a nearby trash bin, as if wearing it any longer would contaminate him.
Mu You, on the other hand, roughly wiped his mouth with his sleeve. The once tender lips now rubbed raw and bleeding. Yet, he seemed oblivious, as if he wanted to tear the skin off entirely.
Lan Yi coldly warned, "Stay away from him."
Others might not know, but Lan Yi was well aware of Mu You's true nature—his dirty, despicable tricks, all while believing he could deceive everyone and get away with it.
In the past, Lan Yi had been too lazy to intervene, but now...
A chilling wave surged in the depths of Lan Yi's eyes.
If Mu You dared to lay a hand on Yue Chu, he shouldn't blame Lan Yi for being ruthless.
Mu You snorted lightly with his youthful face filled with disdain and completely dismissing Lan Yi.
He was nothing but a dog that could only bark loudly, yet he thought he was something special.
He sneered as the corners of his mouth curled with mockery and the gloom in his eyes almost clawed its way out.
"No need for you to worry."
Lan Yi's face was icy and his voice laced with menace: "Don't force me to take action against you."
Mu You burst into laughter, as if he had just heard the funniest joke. He even wiped away nonexistent tears from the corners of his eyes.
"Save it, do you really think I'm afraid of you? On the contrary, don't think I can't see through your little schemes. If you're going to put in effort, it should be in Jiang Quan. Don't compete with me, or I might accidentally slit your throat."
Lan Yi frowned slightly, seemingly disgusted by Mu You.
However, the foul stench from the experimental subject was closing in, forcing him to temporarily let go of Mu You and focus on capturing the troublesome subject.
His expression was cold and his gaze filled with disdain as it swept over Mu You. His black figure swiftly brushed past Mu You and disappeared into the empty corridor in the blink of an eye.
Mu You stood still while wiping the bloodstains from his face.
A thin red line had appeared on his fair skin in an instant, from which bright red blood seeped.
He put his finger in his mouth before sucking away his own blood, then resumed his innocent and simple smile.
What a warning indeed~
........
Yue Chu sauntered into the laboratory early in the morning, only to find someone who shouldn't be there—Lan Yao.
He was slightly taken aback but then walked over with a light laugh: "What wind has blown Director Lan here? No wonder my lab seems so resplendent today."
Lan Yao put down the small notebook in his hand.
It wasn't an important experimental report but rather some data and formulas Yue Chu had casually jotted down during his idle moments.
It held little value but served to keep himself occupied, lest he always stood there drinking tea and getting in everyone's way.
He extended his hand to gesture for Yue Chu to sit opposite him.
His face, which was somewhat similar to Lan Yi's, was more composed and restrained, making it impossible to discern what he was thinking.
Lan Yao: "Starting today, Professor Yue will likely be busier. Please bear with it."
Yue Chu's fingers paused slightly with his gaze fixed on Lan Yao while feeling as if those deep eyes were like black holes that were ready to suck all matter into another dimension.
A sense of foreboding crept into his heart...
"Where is Dr. Jiang?"
Lan Yao liked smart people who caught on quickly, but those who had stayed too long in the ivory tower often carried a naive and innocent air, even maintaining a gentle and kind attitude toward competitors.
He leaned back against the hard chair as his hand lightly tap twice on the white table, causing the emerald ring on his middle finger to emit a crystal-clear, cold light.
"Naturally, he is where he should be. Professor Yue need not to worry; he is safe and just temporarily unable to conduct experimental work. So, from today onward, this project will be entirely under your responsibility and free from anyone's constraints."
In Lan Yao's deep brown eyes burned a flame that madly tried to engulf everyone and burn them to ashes.
Yue Chu's thoughts stirred as his brow furrowed slightly with concern: "I would naturally be happy to accept, but Dr. Jiang is, after all, a rare talent, and these incidents are beyond human control. Regardless, I implore Director Lan to be lenient and release him as soon as possible, so he can make amends."
Lan Yao's handsome face was as calm as still water, and his slightly weathered and deep eyes dark and cold. He was like a cunning tiger that quietly observed its prey and waited for the perfect moment to strike.
Originally, he didn't like soft people like Yue Chu, as such individuals often get bogged down by trivial emotions and end up achieving nothing.
But now, faced with Yue Chu's tactful plea, he didn't feel any disgust.
After all, Jiang Quan had been with him for many years, and this decision seemed too cold and heartless. However, Yue Chu's gentleness perfectly filled the void in his heart that made everything seem peaceful.
Lan Yao agreed.
He stood up but took Yue Chu's notebook in his hand, and prepared to leave.
"Professor Yue, I look forward to your results."
Yue Chu smiled politely, still as composed as ever: "Please rest assured, Director Lan, I will do my best."
........
The night was quiet and the moonlight serene.
The laboratory was silent, with no one around except for the on-duty staff.
Through the transparent walls, one could clearly see the experimental subjects restlessly moving about.
Yue Chu walked softly with his hands in his pockets while occasionally glancing around cautiously. Like a white ghost, he passed through one door after another and entered Jiang Quan's laboratory.
During this time, he had been observing and learning from Mu You's operations, and had a rough idea of how to use these instruments.
Yue Chu quickly browsed through the experimental records as he searched for the names of the personnel involved in each human experiment.
He already had some suspicions but needed further confirmation.
"What are you looking for?"
Yue Chu stiffened as his fingers lightly swiped away the page he had just been looking at. He turned around calmly and smiled gently at the newcomer.
"Captain Lan, still awake at this hour?"
Lan Yi looked at him quietly for a while, then suddenly smiled, lighting up his peach blossom eyes.
He walked over to Yue Chu while looking down at him. Even though he had been caught, Yue Chu remained composed, a calmness that reminded Lan Yi of how Yue Chu had faced the frenzied experimental subjects while equally composed and calm, in stark contrast to the chaos around him.
How to describe him?
Lan Yi felt that all the beautiful words in the world were not enough to capture his essence.
"I'm on duty tonight and heard some noise, so I came to check. If you're looking for something, you can tell me, I'll help you."
Yue Chu chuckled.
If it were anything else, he wouldn't mind asking Lan Yi for help, but this matter might involve Jiang Quan.
In the past, he would have told Lan Yi, but now Lan Yi seemed strange, and he couldn't trust him with Jiang Quan's secrets.
"Nothing, just browsing."
Lan Yi glanced at him, then stepped over to squeeze next to Yue Chu, and skillfully turned on the instrument to check the records.
Yue Chu's heart sank; he hadn't expected the instrument to have this function.
Lan Yi asked casually as he looked through the records: "You're looking at the list of experimental subjects, so you already have a suspect in mind?"
"Not exactly..."
Yue Chu's mind raced.
He didn't know how much Lan Yi had figured out, but there was no point in hiding it now.
"Yes and no, I can't be completely sure yet, it's just a direction of suspicion."
Lan Yi smiled brilliantly, his smile as captivating as aged wine: "No matter what, I'll accompany you in your search."
Yue Chu smiled and nodded, though he didn't really want Lan Yi to see it. But now that Lan Yi was already by his side, there was no point in driving him away.
Lan Yi's eyes sparkled and filled with the brilliance of fireworks that exploded in his brown pupils that illuminated the boundless darkness.
He loved being involved in every one of Yue Chu's secrets.
Lan Yi was more familiar with the laboratory's layout than Yue Chu and quickly pulled up a confidential file.
Lan Yi: "This is a secret file I discovered once, dated before the laboratory was established. It's about a hidden group of initial experimenters. But my clearance level wasn't high enough, so I couldn't open it to view."
After speaking, Lan Yi looked at Yue Chu with his peach blossom eyes deep and profound: "Do you want to open it?"
Yue Chu gazed at the locked file, feeling as if Pandora's box was already in his hands. Even he didn't know what would happen next if he opened it.
He smiled softly.
How thrilling!
