Chapter 14

Marry Me, I'm Super Well-Behaved [Esports] (MARRY ME)

Ning Nanzhou recalled Xiao Qiao’s in-game ID and immediately understood the whole story.

It wasn’t like he’d been flaming for no reason—who in their right mind would describe scrimming with different AD Carries as "being forced to meet random men"? And then getting flamed for poor synergy? Even a saint would call that gigolo behavior.

"And the troll’s a streamer too! Always spouting flirty talk on stream!" Xiao Qiao, oblivious to Ning Nanzhou’s reaction, continued indignantly. "Sister-in-law, you’ve probably never met someone like this. The streaming world’s full of all kinds—you’d be shocked if you saw it."

South himself: "..."

"If he’s not that good, how’d he beat you?" Yu Jin'an smirked. "Are you sure you’re not just salty about losing the 1v1 and making stuff up?"

Xiao Qiao immediately pulled out his phone. "Making stuff up? Look at the chat logs! All I did was lightly suggest he might be cheating, and he told me I was ‘begging for a daddy worldwide’!"

Before he could get Yu Jin'an’s agreement, Chi Yu calmly read out his ID: "‘Captain, When Will You Retire?’"

Oh no. He’d forgotten about that!!!

Xiao Qiao broke out in a cold sweat. Their captain’s punishments were brutal—he was so dead when they got back.

Meanwhile, Ning Nanzhou, unaware of Xiao Qiao’s dread, was just thinking how incredibly patient his idol was—getting called out for retirement and still not losing his temper.

"Serves you right for running your mouth," Yu Jin'an teased mercilessly. "Sister-in-law, let me introduce myself—I’m Yu Jin'an, the team’s Mid Laner. You can call me Lao Yu."

He gestured to the bespectacled middle-aged man beside him. "This is our team manager, Lao Song."

The silver-haired boy greeted them politely. "Hello, Brother Yu. Hello, Brother Song."

Both men’s hearts melted instantly. So well-behaved!

Song Mingjie seized the opportunity to ask, "I heard you’re studying molecular biology at Shanghai University?"

"Damn! That’s an impressive major!" Yu Jin'an exclaimed. "I never even scored above 30 in high school bio."

Xiao Qiao, still drained, mocked weakly, "Did you even go to high school? Pretty sure you dropped out in middle school to join GZ and start your ‘epic love story’ with Eve."

"That’s called team camaraderie," Yu Jin'an retorted, smacking Xiao Qiao on the head.

Ning Nanzhou felt like he had stumbled upon some juicy gossip, but he kept a straight face. "Molecular Diagnostics and Biosensors," he replied.

Song Mingjie had planned to praise whatever the other person said, but he fell silent upon hearing the young man's answer.

What diagnostics and what sensors?

As a sports student who had made it into a first-tier university, his academic credentials were already considered quite high in their circle, but anything related to science still gave him a headache.

He laughed awkwardly. "Sounds like a great major! Our club values diverse talents. Would you be interested in a part-time job with us?"

"Isn't that a bit inappropriate?" Ning Nanzhou worried it might affect Chi Yu.

"We're already short one person at the club," Song Mingjie said, sensing his hesitation. "And some of the work is sensitive—it's best handled by someone we know well."

Having spent a lot on merchandise lately, Ning Nanzhou was strapped for cash.

He glanced at Chi Yu beside him, who gave him an encouraging look.

In a moment of impulsiveness, he agreed.

Song Mingjie exhaled imperceptibly in relief and stood up. "What seafood do you guys want? I'll grab it from the buffet."

"Australian lobster! Tuna! Red king crab!" Xiao Qiao was the first to shout.

Since the team leader was treating them today, and they were doomed either way, he decided to go out with a full stomach!

"Is there seafood congee? If not, just get me a piece of cake," Yu Jin'an said.

Chi Yu turned to the young man beside him. "What would you like? I'll get it for you."

Ah...

Having Chi Yu fetch food for him was too overwhelming.

The white-haired boy answered simply, "Just ice cream, please."

As Song Mingjie walked to the buffet area, he quietly asked Chi Yu, who was scooping ice cream, "I handled what you asked. Why not just give him a supplementary card?"

Chi Yu pictured the young man who insisted on working to return gifts. "Gotta respect the kid's pride."

"Ah, that age," Song Mingjie immediately understood. "But you don’t have to pay him yourself. The club can cover it—it’s not like we’re short on funds."

If not for Chi Yu, FKW would have fallen apart after their S7 defeat.

Chi Yu had sacrificed his future by signing a five-year contract to hold the team together. Keeping one kid around was nothing—they’d owe Chi Yu a bow for all he’d done.

The long-haired young man thought of the overly slender boy. "Of course I’ll take care of my own partner."

Knowing they hadn’t known each other long, Song Mingjie teased, "You’re really serious about this partner thing, huh?"

"Isn’t that how it should be?" Chi Yu countered.

Song Mingjie broke into a sweat for the kid.

He’d forgotten Chi Yu was a textbook perfectionist—whatever he did, he did it flawlessly, and marriage was no exception. His gentleness was genuine, and how could someone that age possibly resist?

Unaware of Song Mingjie’s concerns, Ning Nanzhou sat in the private room, feasting on League gossip.

Today wasn’t a waste—Xiao Qiao really knew all the tea! From the KNT owner’s secret love child to the GZ Mid-Jungle duo brawling backstage, from the VF Mid-Top rift to Cat sidelining their captain.

Several times, he nearly blurted out, "Really?!" But remembering his persona, he calmly sipped water instead.

"These are just small potatoes," Yu Jin'an remarked. "I heard the veteran players have a private group chat—they know all the ancient secrets. The captain’s in it."

So when Chi Yu returned, Ning Nanzhou’s gaze locked onto his phone.

Thinking the boy was eyeing the ice cream in his hand, Chi Yu fed him a spoonful.

It was sea salt cheesecake flavored.

He quite liked the taste, licking the spoon clean, while the other naturally wiped the cream from his lips.

Song Mingjie added seafood to the Matsutake Hot Pot, then raised his glass: "Not sure when the wedding will be, but let me toast to Chi Yu and Xiao Zhou's happiness first."

The others raised their glasses too. Ning Nanzhou hurriedly lifted his, only to find it already empty.

Xiao Qiao handed him a new one. After clinking glasses with everyone, he downed it in one go.

After drinking, he felt something was off. Xiao Qiao suddenly leaned in, sniffed the cup, and said with a trembling voice, "This... this seems to be baijiu!"

Xiao Qiao caught the strong scent of alcohol and knew he was truly done for this time.

If even he couldn't handle a glass of baijiu, let alone his sister-in-law.

Ning Nanzhou looked at the glass in his hand. A whole cup of baijiu?

But he didn’t feel anything at all...

Was this restaurant selling fake liquor?

The four people in the private room watched him with concern. With no way out, he delivered the best performance of his life.

He slowly set down the glass, then slumped face-first onto the table, murmuring incoherently.

"Xiao Qiao, you really—!" Song Mingjie scolded. "Being careless is one thing, but handing over baijiu as water? Alcohol poisoning can kill someone!"

With his eyes closed, Ning Nanzhou spoke up, "I'm fine."

Hearing this, Xiao Qiao felt even more guilty—his sister-in-law was still defending him despite being unconscious.

He berated himself, "I'm a disgrace! Captain, go ahead and scold me."

"Buy some hangover medicine and send it to the car," Chi Yu said. "I'll take your sister-in-law home."

The next moment, his body was lifted into the air, held tightly in Chi Yu's arms.

Keeping his eyes closed heightened the sense of weightlessness. Instinctively, he wrapped his arms around Chi Yu's neck, pressing close.

Chi Yu's body was cool, like the temperature of a serpent. Unconsciously, he curled up, his lips brushing against Chi Yu's skin.

The other seemed to stiffen for a moment before holding him even tighter.
