Chapter 15

Marry Me, I'm Super Well-Behaved [Esports] (MARRY ME)

Unable to see outside, Ning Nanzhou could only tell they were home by the sound of the door opening.

His head landed on something soft—probably Chi Yu placing him on the bed.

The blanket carried a faint trace of Snow Mountain Scent, Chi Yu's signature fragrance. His breathing involuntarily hitched.

Perhaps thinking he was uncomfortable, Chi Yu gently lifted his neck and fed him hangover medicine with utmost tenderness.

Not actually drunk, he didn’t want to take the medicine. Mimicking a reflexive reaction, he pushed the pill out with his tongue.

With his eyes closed, Ning Nanzhou couldn’t see Chi Yu. He haphazardly pushed the pill away and his tongue inevitably brushed against the other’s hand, leaving a damp trail as it licked his palm.

When Ning Nanzhou realized what he’d done, he wanted to crawl into a hole. That gesture was far too embarrassing for an adult. Chi Yu’s hand paused for a long moment before feeding him the pill again, treating him like a child.

Perhaps because of the medicine, Ning Nanzhou slept soundly until dawn. When he woke, his body felt slightly sore.

Having slept so deeply, he wasn’t sure whether he had shared the bed with Chi Yu last night.

Given Chi Yu’s upright nature, even if they had slept in the same bed, it wouldn’t have been a big deal. Even if he had clung to the other like an octopus in his sleep, Chi Yu would probably have just calmly said, “Don’t kick off the blankets.”

Speaking of sleeping habits… he hadn’t kicked the blankets last night, had he?

The disheveled young man stared at the messy sheets, suddenly unsure. There seemed to be signs of tossing and turning—had he left Chi Yu with the bad impression of being a restless sleeper?

He didn’t leave the bedroom immediately. Instead, he freshened up in the bathroom, tidied his hair, and then stepped out with practiced nonchalance.

Walking out, he saw Chi Yu preparing breakfast in the open kitchen. Ning Nanzhou greeted him, “Thanks for taking care of me last night. I’ll head back to school now.”

Chi Yu’s long hair cascaded over his shoulders, his shirt not fully buttoned, exuding a relaxed aura unlike his usual composed self. “Have breakfast first.”

“It’s fine, I usually skip breakfast anyway.”

Ning Nanzhou wasn’t in the habit of eating breakfast. On weekdays, he’d go straight to lunch after morning classes, and on weekends, he’d sleep until noon.

“Eat breakfast,” Chi Yu insisted, firmly seating him at the table.

This was the first time Ning Nanzhou had felt Chi Yu’s authoritative side. He obediently sat down and began eating.

The breakfast consisted of toast, bacon and eggs, and a bowl of creamy soup.

Chi Yu really did treat him like a child—not only adding an extra glass of milk but also setting out cranberry cookies for him.

Ning Nanzhou had a typical Chinese palate and rarely ate Western-style bread or sweets, so he couldn’t discern any particular quality in them. But knowing Chi Yu had made the meal, he ate carefully, savoring each bite.

Hmm… Chi Yu was not only a skilled gamer but also a great cook.

When he looked up, he met Chi Yu’s narrow, deep-set eyes—like falling into the bottomless waters of Honiara Lake. Desperate for conversation, Ning Nanzhou blurted, “Why don’t you live at the club?”

“I’m not used to living with others,” Chi Yu replied, sipping his black coffee. “And Xiao Qiao and the others are under too much pressure.”

Ning Nanzhou marveled at Chi Yu’s tact. “Not used to living with others” was his way of saying he disliked it, just as “your vocabulary is too rich” was his polite way of calling him out for excessive flirty talk. It was a gentle yet distant demeanor.

Glancing at the time as he ate, he realized it was already 8 a.m.

“Do you have class on weekends?” Chi Yu asked.

“No.”

Though he had no classes today, he hadn’t streamed in two days. If he didn’t return soon, his online friends might suspect he’d been arrested in a vice raid.

Chi Yu set down his cup. “Then let me show you around the club?”

A tour of the club!!!

FKW was currently the most prestigious esports team, and their facilities were strictly off-limits to outsiders.

The thought of seeing Chi Yu’s training grounds—with Chi Yu himself as his guide—made Ning Nanzhou agree instantly.

Let his online friends suspect whatever they wanted. It wasn’t like they hadn’t doubted him before.

FKW was located in Haiyue District. There must have been something special about the area, as four out of Shanghai’s five top teams were based there, with only a wall separating them from the GZ team.

Chi Yu swiped his card and led him through the front gates.

As soon as he reached the door, Xiao Qiao came over carrying a pile of supplements: "Sister-in-law, I'm so glad you're okay. Otherwise, I'd never forgive myself. I bought you some goji berries and ginseng to help you recover."

Goji berries and ginseng after just one glass of white liquor?

Just how fragile did Xiao Qiao think he was?

Ning Nanzhou looked at Xiao Qiao struggling with the boxes. To be honest, he could knock someone out with a single punch.

"I don't need these," he said sincerely. "Training is so exhausting—you should take care of yourself instead."

Xiao Qiao hadn’t expected the boy to turn the concern back on him. His sister-in-law was just too kind.

He volunteered eagerly, "Captain, you go ahead with your work. I’ll show Sister-in-law around the base!"

Xiao Qiao took the lead. "This white building is the main one, and the black one is for leisure. We usually train and eat in the main building."

He gave a floor-by-floor introduction. "The first floor is the lobby, the second floor has the cafeteria and gym, and the training room is on the third floor. The analysis department is right next to it. Song Ge said you’ll be working there."

Ning Nanzhou’s first impression of the base was how spacious it was. Second, the equipment was top-notch.

The training room had perfect lighting—not too dim or too bright—with a clean, modern white aesthetic that looked neat and tidy.

His gaze lingered on Chi Yu’s seat, where the rabbit plushie he’d gifted sat right beside the keyboard.

Just then, Xiao Qiao muttered something while staring at his screen. Ning Nanzhou instinctively asked, "What was that?"

"It’s about that streamer," Xiao Qiao said sheepishly. "I wanted to expose him in his livestream, but he hasn’t gone live in two days. No idea what he’s up to."

South: "..." Wreaking havoc in your Nexus.

He changed the subject. "Let’s go check out the analysis department. I want to get familiar with the work as soon as possible."

"No problem." Xiao Qiao led him to a room up ahead.

The room was piled high with documents, stacked like snowy mountains, making it hard to distinguish the desk from the floor.

A baby-faced man with thick glasses lifted his head from the paper stacks. "You must be Xiao Ning, right? I’m Yang Ji, head of the analysis department. Sorry, I can’t get up—my legs are numb."

"Hello, Brother Yang," Ning Nanzhou said sincerely.

Yang Ji had been FKW’s first Top Laner. Though his individual achievements weren’t outstanding and he’d since faded from memory, his contributions to the team were immense—he’d sacrificed his own playstyle for the squad.

Having entered society at sixteen, Yang Ji had met all kinds of people and could tell the boy’s respect was genuine.

He’d wondered just how well-behaved this kid could be, and now he saw it firsthand.

He waved Xiao Qiao off. "Go back to training. Your ranked games are looking rough. I’ll show Xiao Ning around."

Xiao Qiao, remembering the tasks assigned by the captain, reluctantly left.

Yang Ji took a moment before standing up from his chair. "During the off-season, the analysis department doesn’t have much work. It’s mostly organizing past data."

"Your workstation is here." Yang Ji led him to the farthest cubicle. "I’ll send you the documents that need sorting. Just categorize them properly. The monthly pay is 10,000."

"That much?"

Ning Nanzhou was startled—he’d only be working weekends, eight days a month.

Yang Ji gave him a deep look. "We couldn’t find the right person for the job, and the club has plenty of sponsors. Money’s not an issue."

"That's too much." Ning Nanzhou was worried it might affect Chi Yu. "Before coming, I checked the average part-time wage for university students in Shanghai—it's between 100 and 120. I'll just take 800 a month."

Yang Ji's mouth fell open slightly. "Let's make it a thousand. You'll have commuting expenses too."

After negotiating the salary up to a thousand, Yang Ji walked into the conference room and said to the long-haired man who had just finished his meeting, "I tried my best. Your wife is too sharp."

He was indeed a good kid—just not the kind who could be lured away with candy. More like the type who'd calmly call 110 at the sight of a kidnapper.

Chi Yu lowered his eyes. "Thanks."

Ning Nanzhou sat at his workstation organizing materials, most of which dated back to before Season 4.

The Advent League developed relatively late in the country. Before Season 4, many clubs weren't properly established. Forget analysts—some coaches' only roles were buying cigarettes and ordering takeout.

He hadn't expected FKW to have such detailed analytical data this early on. No wonder they became a Three-time Champion club.

Even if some aspects had become outdated with version updates, certain elements still held value—especially the tactics.

He studied them carefully. Later, some would comment that FKW had planned this from the start—assigning someone to the analysis department right away was clearly grooming them for the captain's path.

As Ning Nanzhou read, he organized the documents. Though he worked slowly, there simply wasn't enough material, and he finished in just an hour.

Although Yang Ji had told him he could leave once done, taking a full day's pay for one hour of work didn't sit right with him. He waited for Yang Ji to assign him other tasks.

Around six o'clock, Yang Ji approached with some documents and said matter-of-factly, "Waiting for Chi Yu? I'll take you to him."

Before Ning Nanzhou could deny it, Yang Ji briskly headed toward the training room.

Ning Nanzhou had no choice but to follow. Remembering the documents, he asked, "Brother Yang, who wrote these analysis reports? They're quite... extensive."

He barely managed to replace "good" with "extensive."

To his surprise, Yang Ji replied, "Xiao Ning, you wouldn't know—back then, there were no analysts. Coaches only bought cigarettes and ordered takeout. Chi Yu wrote every single one of these himself. It wasn't until later that the club could afford to hire analysts."

So Chi Yu had written them...

He'd only known that after defeats back then, Chi Yu would train relentlessly day and night. He hadn't realized that after training, Chi Yu also took on the work of an analyst.

A saying came to mind: Only when you stand atop the mountains will the world hear your voice.

As they spoke, they reached the training room. Yang Ji called out to Chi Yu, "Your wife's here to see you."

The tips of Ning Nanzhou's ears turned pink.

"By the way, why did you put Xiao Ning's workstation so far away?" Yang Ji sat down on a chair. "There's a spot right across from you."

For the first time, Ning Nanzhou felt slightly awkward. The only explanation seemed to be that Chi Yu didn't want to see him—was it to avoid gossip, or... was it because of him?

His hands clenched unconsciously, but the man replied calmly.

"Didn't want distractions."
